These falls tumble down in a single drop for some 80 metres, or about 260 feet, before crashing dramatically into a round basin that is an irresistible jade colour. Seeing the green waters set off by the red cliffs around them is something quite unforgettable and is best enjoyed from the observation platform above. The water comes from the Sabine River, which is popular for the bass fishing opportunities it presents. In addition to the loveliness of the falls themselves, this waterfall is also a popular stop on the way to many other attractions in the immediate vicinity. These include God’s Window and Blyde River Canyon as well as a number of other waterfalls (Lisbon Falls being the highest in the province). The world-famous Kruger National Park is nearby and offers visitors unrivalled wildlife experiences, bringing many of them back to South Africa year after year to be enjoy wonderful safaris and camping. Those visiting Berlin Falls need to keep an eye out for the stunning proteas that can be found growing in the region. This is especially true of the endemic Blyde River protea, which is a gorgeously vibrant bloom that is both hardy and elegant.

From Lisbon Falls you drive back to the tar road (R532) and turn left (north). Drive for 2 km (past the R534 turn-off) and then turn off left. Drive past the Berlin Sawmill and at 2 km from the main road, turn left and park at the parking area. A short walk takes you to a vantage point overlooking the 45 m high Berlin Falls. Entrance Fee: R10/car, R20/minibus

Situated outside Graskop, these falls are spectacular and you may be lucky enough to spot some mountaineers honing their skills right next to the falls.
