KRITSA : strada principale : negozietti con prodotti locali. Chiese da visitare : Panagìa Kerà, una chiesa bizantina del XIII secolo, nota per i suoi affreschi (sulla strada per Agios Nikolaos), Ekklisia Panagia Odigitria (in centro, prima della banca) Ekklisia Agios Giorgios di fronte a casa. Le 40 piccole chiese, putroppo spesso chiuse.

Kritsa è un vilaggio caratteristico dell'isola, situata sotto la collina di Kastellos, molto vicino alla città di Agios Nikolaos. Ciò che rende speciale Kritsa è la conservazione dello stile di vita tradizionale e che ogni anno attrae dozzine di visitatori. Le pittoresche stradine, i cortili fioriti, i negozi di tessuti, le tradizionali caffetterie, le collezioni folcloristiche e i templi bizantini possono facilmente conferire all'insediamento la caratterizzazione di un museo storico e folcloristico aperto su Creta. Oltre a passeggiare per le stradine, vale la pena fare un'escursione nella gola di Kritsa, visitare i musei del folclore e ammirare gli affreschi dei suoi monumenti bizantini, tra i quali, il più importante, è Panagia Kera. Da notare che alcune scene del film "Christ Recrucified" una serie TV basata sull'omonimo romanzo di Nikos Kazantzakis, sono state girate a Kritsa.

Kritsa is located 11 km inland from the large town of Agios Nikolaos in the East of Crete. Kritsa is a traditional village with old houses and narrow streets on the Lassithi (Dikti) mountains. As you approach you can see Kritsa nestling in a bowl at the foot of the Dikti Mountains, under a red overhang of rock known as Kastellos. From many vantage points throughout the village there are far reaching views across the olive groves that produce delicious award-winning oil, down to the coast and up to the rounded Thripti Mountains that spectacularly fill the eastern view.

Kritsa is one of the most picturesque towns in Crete,built amphitheatrically on a rock hill.In Kritsa people keep the old Cretan customs and the traditions and the town is considered one of the most important centers of the Cretan folk and weaving art.Three of its fountains and one paved alleyway are officialy characterised as historical monuments as they are typical examples of the traditional architecture and directly connected with the history of Krista and the memories of local residents. 1)The Fountain in Koutsounari.It is a simple stone construction in arched form.2)The Fountain in Kavvoussa. With a twin arched facade.3)The Fountain in Chaniotena.It was used for watering the animals.Built in the typical apsidal form of small Cretan fountains.4)The only original alleyway (kalderimi)that is left in the town and connects its center with the plains.In the summertime the town is being visited by hundreds of tourists every day.The main street becomes a sea of colour with tablecloths,rugs and other goods hanging outside many of the shops.Pottery,leather goods and general tourist souvenirs may also be found.Visitors enjoy walking in the town's neighborhoods with the old houses and the flowery yards,through the narrow streets.At the town's square there are tarditional cafes(Kafeneion)bars and taverns.
