The Jefferson Building is a slightly under-the-radar destination on Capitol Hill. It is beautifully ornate and contains Thomas Jefferson's personal library.

It's the oldest federal institution in the US, our national library, and it is awesome. There is a free one hour walking tour and also an on-line tour, plus many other options.
