Il cuore nevralgico di Sorrento è Piazza Tasso che sorge oggi dove un tempo sorgeva un Castello aragonese demolito alla fine dell’Ottocento. È qui che sorge l’omonimo monumento dedicato a Torquato Tasso (tra e cose da vedere assolutamente a Sorrento) ed è da qui che parte Corso Italia, la strada dello shopping di Sorrento sulla quale si affacciano tante strade piccole e strette, dove a dicembre si può assistere alle tradizionali celebrazioni per il Natale e dove tutto l’anno ci si può fermare per mangiare dello street food, i famosi gnocchi alla sorrentina o una pizza.

Luogo di grande interesso storico-culturale- religioso, la Cattedrale di Sorrento è oggi il luogo centrale della città per le celebrazioni eucaristiche di tutta la Penisola Sorrentina.

It is a catholic cathedral dedicated to Saints Philip and James. The church is a real inlay museum where, on the front door at the entrance, are depicted the most important events occured in Sorrento. Originally has been built in Romanesque style and then turned in Baroque style in 16th century. Inside the church, at the entrance on the left hand side, you can admire an antique "Presepe", a nativity scene dating back to the 18th century.

The St James and St Philip's church is the Sorrento's cathedral. Built in the X century, it was partially destroyed after a terrible pirate invasion in 1558. After that, the bishop Giulio Pavesi succeeded in rebuilding the church in a baroque style. Only the XIV century entrance, with two beautiful pink marble columns, remained the same. Inside the church, you can admire a series of bas-reliefs telling the church's history since the visit of St Peter in 43-44 A.D, the beautiful chapels and the precious marble bas-reliefs made by the great sculptor Andrea Pisano in 1340.
