Mašun lies 1025 m above the sea level in a wonderful environment of the Snežnik woodland. This is the crossroads between the municipalities Ilirska Bistrica, Cerknica, Pivka and the Loška Valley. It used to be a predominantly forester's settlement, however the beauty of the intact nature and clean air attract increasingly more tourists from near and far. The visitors can take a walk along the Mašun forest-learning path, do cycling, or try a more demanding 4-hour ascent to the Snežnik mountain. For those that enjoy winter sports, there is a small skiing place, a sledge track and cross-country tracks. There are also remains of the castle, THE HUNTING MANSION SCHÖNBURG and a restaurant. 40min drive
