Good Life Center Located at 372 Harborside Road, ME, 04642 The Nearing Farm, 372 Harborside Road in Brooksville, was built half a century ago by intellectuals Helen and Scott Nearing who practiced philosophy. Helen built the stone house all by herself with a wheel barrow - no fossil fuels. Nowadays the farm is called the Good Life Center, whose mission it is to perpetuate the legacy of Helen and Scott Nearing. The Good Life Center, through its programming and preservation of the historic Forest Farm homestead, advocates for simple and sustainable living skills, social and economic justice, organic gardening and the non-exploitation of animals. Farm fever in this corner of Maine can be traced back in part to former residents Helen and Scott Nearing, the couple credited with inspiring the 1970s back-to-the-land movement, and Eliot Coleman, of Four Season Farm fame, which is located right next door to the Nearing Farm now called Forest Farm, who makes organic gardening look so cool. Forest Farm is open to visitors June through October 13 . Tour the Nearings’ organic gardens and their last hand-built stone home, purchase Nearing books, or attend a seasonal program. Suggested admission is $10; "since we are not endowed, we rely solely on donations and book sales to support our work. Thank you for your support."
