The great and well-known author, Henrik Ibsen, had his upbringing in Skien before heading to Grimstad. When visiting Henrik Ibsen’s childhood home at Venstøp, you will learn about the early life of the boy who grew up to become a world-famous playwright. The childhood home is just a few kilometres north of Skien city centre. Venstøp consists of the preserved farmhouse (dating from 1815), the wash house, the farm labourers’ quarters, the barn and the storehouse. NB! The Henrik Ibsen Museum is only open from 1 May to 31 August. Please check their website for more details.
