All sorts of fun things happen on Boston Common, but our favorite is Shakespeare on the Common. Check online to see if they’re performing during your visit. Pack a cooler and a lawn chair (in the shed under the screen porch) and head in for the evening. It is soooo fun. Get there early for best seats. You may need to reserve online due to pandemic.
Established in 1634, Boston Common is America’s oldest public park. But the 50-acre Common – along with the adjoined Boston Public Garden – gives the 21st century family plenty of fun to fill a full morning, afternoon or evening. Whether you enjoy a ride on the swan boats in the summer or ice skating on Frog Pond in the winter, there's something to enjoy for every season in the Common.

Can't come to Boston without going to the Common. Skate on the Frog Pond in Winter, wander around, check out the State House and public sculpture. The parking garage underneath the Common is easy to use and surprisingly affordable. Shakespeare on the Common in the summer.
Come here to check out the famous Make Way for Ducklings ducks that are found in one part of the park. This is Boston's Central Park: not nearly as big or diverse, but an iconic spot nonetheless and you can take a Swan Boat ride from here, too. Take the Red Line to "Park" and you'll be on the Common!
