The neighborhood of Rockaway Beach is a long stretch of boardwalk along the beach in Queens and home to a diverse intersection of communities. It’s amazing that you can be in New York City while watching the sunset over ocean waves. Since you’re already in Queens, check out Edgemere Farm, too—an urban farm with a rustic barn, restaurants, and events. If you’re looking for peace and calm, it’s quieter in the winter. And in the summer, there’s a lot going on!

Take the subway to the beach! You can take a surf lesson, rent a bike and ride or stroll down the boardwalk. If I’m going to the beach in NYC - this is where I’m going! Take the ferry from Red Hook south directly to Rockaway for a beach day. Sunsets here are spectacular.
