Bern is about a 2 hour drive from Evian and is the capital of Switzerland. It is a very attractive medieval city with an incredible old town centre ,which curves round the river It is really beautiful in summer with flowers everywhere.There are boat tours on the river that surround the old town. You can walk through town and at the far side there is a huge park/enclosure that houses the famous black bears. A lovely historic place to spend a day. It is quite large so we just headed to the old town and did all our sight seeing there.

Bern counts as the biggest shopping mall in europe because of its covered passages troughout the bern city! UNESCO World hertiage!

If you have time consider to visit the Swiss capital. Its old town is UNESCO World Cultural Heritage and it is very scenic. A bid plus are the arcades that allow for covered open air shopping. You can easily spend a rainy day in Bern without getting wet. Another thing you should not miss are the bears, the Zytglogge - clock tower and the markets (they are usually on Tuesday and Saturday mornings)
