History in our neighborhood! -The cabin is not opened to the public but visitors are encouraged to look in the windows and walk the grounds. -17th century cabin -Built by General Braddock's men in 1755 for then Colonel George Washington for use as his operational headquarters during the French and Indian War when he was commanding the Virginia troops. -President Washington returned to use the cabin again as Commander-in-Chief in 1794 to review troops gathered to put down the Whiskey Rebellion. -The cabin is historically significant because it is the only remaining artifact from Washington's first military command. -Washington is the only President in US history to command troops in the field while he was President.

The Headquarters of George Washington is a historic site located at 38 Greene Street in the historic downtown district of Cumberland, Maryland. It's a quick stop but worth seeing. Just go early in the day. People like to hang out there in the evening.

George Washington's cabin. Mt. Vernon it's not; but he did sleep here and you can get right up close to it.
