From the green and red neon sign out front to the black and white tile floor, this modern deli has so much old school New York appeal. They carry an impressive selection of savory smoked fish and caviar, plus the sweet, cinnamon babka they make in-house is amazing. It’s crowded at peak hours, but I just take a number and scan the counters. They have a sweet and sour, quick-pickled cabbage salad that’s not behind the counter, but prepackaged in their refrigerated section that I sometimes dream about.

BEST BAGEL Come in for whitefish on a bialy, leave with a pound of rugelach, a briny carton of half-sour pickles, and some black and whites for good measure.

Go here if you want to see the original Russ store. Not the one on Orchard st. They make awesome smoked salmon bagels here. Also crazy good sweets, and excellent dried fruits and nuts.

The quintessential Jewish delicatessen - if you like smoked salmon and other fish, come here. You may have to wait but take a number and be entertained by the staff. Don't miss out on the whitefish salad and the half sour pickles!
