The royal Fortress, where Joan of Arc met the King Charles VII and convinced him to fight the war against the English. So much history there it's palpable.

Imposing medieval castle with wonderful views over the Loire. Explore dungeons where templar knights were imprisoned. Go on Thursday morning to combine with the market. Stop for a meal or beer in the quaint old town below the fortress.

Wonderful and historic spot for a family-friendly visit. Great views on Chinon too.

A must - this is one of our nearest châteaux. Don't forget to drive to 'rive gauche' to see the spectacular view of it from the other side of the river.
