The brackenrigg is within walking distance of Five Wreay Mansions. Good food and good Ale. You may need to book at peak times.

It's a 30 min drive, but it is worth a visit. Clearly I am biast, since my family run it, but this is a great pub to sit and have lunch in while looking out over Lake Ullswater. Lots of nice walks around (The Ullswater way passes right through) and my brother John set up a Brewery here and the beer is served on site.
