Bag one of the Smokies' most thrilling peaks on this 12.6-mile shuttle hike that takes in ridgetop views before tackling a rocky, high exposure descent. The best spot to watch the sunrise on Mt. Leconte is Myrtle Point, while Cliff Top is perfect for sunset. Both vista points are just short hike…
Regardless of the trailhead you use to access the LeConte Trail, the payoff for reaching this peak is most definitely worth it. Be warned, this hike is not for the beginner!
From the Sugarlands Visitor Center, drive 8.7 miles south along Newfound Gap Road parking on right. You will find Arch Rock 1.3 mile up that trail. Alum Cave is a 2.2 mile hike at Trailhead. Amazing!
Second tallest peak in the Appalachian chain. There is a hike in lodge on top. Must make reservations to stay well in advance but you can hike up and back down if you start EARLY! It's about 7 hours one way.
Hiking Mt LeConte is a full day of adventure. There are easy to moderate trials to explore everywhere. Plan your route in advance.
