Coup de théâtre: in order to give his bistro in Montmartre a little extra sex appeal, Sébastien Guénard has handed over the kitchens to Masahiro Kawai,a Japanese chef who used to work at La Régalade and L’Avant-Comptoir. And the results were almost immediate: veal tartare with salsa verde or a trio of mackerel, piperade and herbed breadcrumbs for the appetizers; tender veal with mashed potatoes and turnips, or pork loin with a creamy eggplant purée with toasted sesame oil for the main courses; 18-month-aged Comté from La Jurasserie Fine; and soft French toast + financier + a tiny melon salad for the café gourmand. For the wine, we explore the neighboring wine shop, where there are plenty of good bottles to be found: an excellent Côtes-du-Rhône Bout d’zan from Le Mas du Libian (€5.50 a glass), natural Orléanais from Reynald Héaulé (€6). And if you’d prefer a beer, there’s a Goutte d’Or (€8). Formula €19.50 (weekday lunch), menus €35 to €46 (€69 with food and wine pairings)

This restaurant, part of the bistro revolution that's spreading all over Paris, has been popular since it opened its doors a few years ago. The ever-changing menu features the freshest and highest quality ingredients available. The atmosphere is chic, yet laid back and Parisian in feel. The staff is extremely helpful and is always at your service for the selection of one of their wonderful bottles of wine that are also available for purchase at their wine shop, Cave du Miroir, just across the street. We recommend their tasting menu (5 small plates in succession at 40€/person). A la carte options are a bit less expensive and equally good. Reservations recommended.
