Parks & Nature
This is about a two hour drive southeast of Murfreesboro but it is well worth the drive. After about a 45 minute drive on the interstate you exit to regular roads and start ascending the mountain. It is a beautiful drive with lots of gorgeous views. Once you reach Altamont TN, my two favorite sites in that region is the Stones Door Recreation area and Greeter Falls, a few minutes down the road. There are signs for both locations clearly marked. The first stop is Greeter Falls which is about a 30 minute hike each way. The second stop is the Stones Door Area which is about a 15 minute hike each way.

The Stones River Battlefield tells the story of one of the largest battles of the civil war. Ran by the National Park Service, there are plenty of information available and the grounds themselves are a beautiful outdoor area.
