Simply my favorite place in town for cañas and tapas. It's cheap, the beer is good, so is the wine and the waiters are really friendly. You'll find it crowded: it's normal, but if you wait for a few minutes you'll get a table. Great tostas (slices of bread with stuff over it).

Lots of Spanish dishes for a reasonable price. Lunch menu around 12€ is really worth it. In front of the cathedral and two minute walk from the royal palace. An excellent choice if you are walking near the oldtown (Austrias) and want to have a good meal.

Probably the nicest place to eat in Plaza de la Paja, one of the most beautiful spots in La Latina (don't miss the small romantic garden near it, Jardín del Príncipe de Anglona). On weekdays the menu costs around 12€ and includes an eclectic choice of food, mixing Spanish, French and Italian dishes. Everything is wonderfully cooked and the bistro is really quiet and adequate for a romantic evening. In the night it becomes a little bit more expensive.

If you've got 30€ to spend and want to enjoy a really good dinner, this is your place. Simply one of the best restaurants in Madrid, although it's not as popular as other big names. This is the place I'd go for a romantic dinner, an anniversary or some kind of small celebration. They serve mostly Catalonian food, in big dishes and perfectly cooked, but their biggest attraction is their huge wine menu. If you need any advice with wine, they'll be happy to help. They know their business.

Good pricing, interesting and wide wine offer and really good tapas and raciones. A fine place for ordering a few dishes to share with friends. It's normally crowded, but they have some extra tables downstairs, so give it a try.

A great place to try typical food from Madrid. You have to be brave to eat some of the dishes, but everything is super genuine and very well cooked. Nothing here is vegetarian, sorry. Go with an empty stomach

Simply one of the most important art museums in the world. You haven't seen Madrid if you haven't been to El Prado. Most of Velazquez, Goya, Ribera and El Greco works are here.

Sorolla is one of the most important Spanish painters of the 19th century. Although he spent most of his life in Valencia, he had a house in Madrid, which now hosts a national museum about his works. It's a little bit out of the itinerary, but really worth for people interested in art.

El Rastro is Madrid's most iconic fleamarkets. It's surrounded by vintage, second hand and antiquities shops. The street market takes place on Sunday mornings, but most of these shops are opened as well on weekdays

One of the traditional food markets in the area. It's less than 5 minutes walking from the flat and it's the perfect place to buy vegetables, fruit, fish and meat. That's where I buy my daily food. It's not a place to eat.

This is the closest cinema to the flat. I like it because you can see the movies in their original language and they sell sweet popcorn. They also broadcast live plays, ballets and operas from all over the world.

This is Madrid's most iconic park. If the weather is good, it's going to be crowded, but it's worth visiting. By the end of May it hosts, for two weeks, the largest book market in town. A perfect spot for a run or a walk
