The BEST Fondue and Raclette in the area, less than 5 mins walk from Chalet Sarah. Very atmospheric, live local Swiss music at the weekends. The A-listers from Gstaad like to come here, so book.

Also a little café. The best bread of all. I like the Basler Brot. Carol likes the Sant'Abbondio. The pains au chocolat are to die for. Their other café in Saanen, next to the dairy is brilliant too.

The fine supermarket in Gstaad. It's A.B.S.O.L.U.T.E.L.Y. lovely. Go for a wander round. It's just opposite Charly's patisserie and café too, very much on the main drag in Gstaad.

Drive to Lauenen, then to the lake. Walk around the Lauenesee. 45 mins. Then sip coffee in the café. Can walk up to the Geltenschuss waterfall (1 hr) or the Geltenhütte alpine hut (2 hrs), where you can have coffee and rösti then walk back down. If you do this, and have a head for heights, walk back via the Chüetungel route (there is a ladder on this route, pls note).

Lauenensee
An der LediDrive to Lauenen, then to the lake. Walk around the Lauenesee. 45 mins. Then sip coffee in the café. Can walk up to the Geltenschuss waterfall (1 hr) or the Geltenhütte alpine hut (2 hrs), where you can have coffee and rösti then walk back down. If you do this, and have a head for heights, walk back via the Chüetungel route (there is a ladder on this route, pls note).
Drive to Lenk. (circa 45 minutes), then to the Simmenfälle. Park at the hotel. Stroke the pygmy goats. Then walk up by the Simmenfälle, marvel at their power. Keep walking up to Siebenbrunnen, an Alpine meadow. There is an organic farm up here which sells its own cheese at their hotel, which they have been running since the 1880s. 50 mins to Siebenbrunnen from the car. 5 mins beyond the hotel are the Siebenbrunnen themselves, the 7 springs, which come out of the rock from the glacier above. This valley is just awesome.
