The village of Hornbæk.
Hornbæk is a quaint village with access to one of the best beaches around. Lots of small stores, cafes and restaurants. You also find Det Fedtede Hjørne (The Greasy Corner) featuring various types of street food - including a bar - all served outdoors (open seasonally). There is a playground by the harbor, next to the fish monger. Hornbæk can get quite busy during the summer high season. Park for free in the lot at the center of town.

Tisvildeleje
Another quaint town about 20 min drive from the house. Cafes, small shops and restaurants. Great hiking at Tisvilde Hegn.

The closest options are in Smidstrup. Here you will find both Coop 365 and Netto. For a greater and more upscale selection you can find Super Brugsen and Irma in Gilleleje. SuperBrugsen will also carry charcoal for the grill.

Kids & Playgrounds.
There is one small playground by the harbour in Gilleleje. Across the street you can buy nets and fish for crabs which our kids love. Gilleleje also has the most charming toy store named Trolde & Eventyr. Hornbæk also has a playground by the harbour. The village of Liseleje has Legepladsen Tyren which is a imaginative playground in the woods by the beach. It’s about a 40 min drive from the house though. Esrum Monastery features a small wooden playground with a zip line.

Amusement park with pools, canoeing & water slides, plus fairground rides, karting & petting zoo. Prepare to spend the entire day there. For the scenic route take the ferry from Hundested to Rørvig.

Gilbjerg Stien (Gilbjerg Path)
Langs kysten fra Gilleleje by til Gilbjerghoved findes vandrestien, Gilbjergstien. Her kan udsigten nydes fra de op til 33 m høje skrænter ud over Kattegat til halvøen, Kullen i Sverige. Undervejs passerer man Gilbjergstenen og mindestenen for den kendte danske forfatter og filosof, Søren Kirkegaard.
