We had a fire in the Columbia River Gorge last year, so a lot of the gorge hiking trails are closed on the Oregon side. Latourell Falls is still open though, and there's a nice, pretty easy hike that will just take you an hour or two depending on your pace--and you can see both lower and upper falls this way. There are also picnic tables nearby. The drive out here is also beautiful, be sure to check out nearby Crown Point!

Sightseeing

I love just walking or biking around the waterfront of Portland. The Eastbank Eslpanade (along the East Bank) is especially nice, but so is walking (or biking) the whole loop from the Hawthorne Bridge to the Steele Bridge.

Entertainment & Activities

Don't miss our famous Powell's City of Books. It's a full city block and four stories tall, and a great place for book browsing and people watching. Also has a large, fantastic cafe.

This is a cozy, fun theater, that serves beer and pizza! Tickets are a little cheaper than corporate theaters too.

The Bagdad is a ronnovated old theater that now has a movie theater (just one screen, but you can get food and beer!) as well as a restaurant, and two bars. It's a good people watching and a good gathering spot.

Drinks & Nightlife

Skip the lines at Pok Pok. Whiskey Soda Lounge, right across the street, is owned by the same people, and is one of my favorite bars in Portland. It's always busy, but usually has a free table. Have one of their cocktails, sample their amazing homemade drinking vinegars, and soak up the great atmosphere. They also have an extensive menu, and many of the dishes are ones you can get at Pok Pok anyway, including the famous wings!

Bazi is one of my favorite bars in the neighborhood. It's a Belgian bar with a wide variety of Belgian beers and good eats. Cosy and friendly.

Essentials

Fred Meyer has everything. The ground floor is a huge grocery store and pharmacy, and the second floor is like a department store and hardware store combined. So convenient, and just 4 blocks from my house!

New Seasons is the best grocery store around for high quality organic food. A little on the spendy side though.

Nearest Biketown bike share station. Note: Biketown is for short-term biking from place to place, with rides that last a half hour or less. Not meant for renting a bike for a few days--you'll need to go downtown for that. If you want to use Biketown, make an account on your smart phone or online first.
