Lauterbrunnen Highlights

The Staubbachfall waterfall - the emblem of Lauterbrunnen - is 300 meters of spray mist on the vertical rock face. The imposing waterfall was already an inspiration for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who in 1779 wrote the poem "Song of the spirits above the waterfall. This breathtaking spectacle of nature can be admired up close thanks to the "Staubbach gallery": from the foot of the falls a short steep climb leads in about 10 minutes on foot to the "Staubbachhubel", from where, through a tunnel and climbing a few stairs behind the waterfall. The waterfall is open all day and is free of charge.

The transport system is very efficient in Lauterbrunnen, bus stops are located throughout the city center and also in the surrounding area. It will be easy to reach the train station “Bahnhof” or the waterfalls inside the mountain “Trummelbachfall”mountain or even the “Schilthornbahn” from which you can reach the town of Mürren, the Skyline Walk of Birg and the revolving restaurant with the Bond World of the Piz Gloria.

The best way to save money in Lauterbrunnen is to buy the regional pass which is valid for several days so that you can take all transportation without having to pay anything extra.

Since the covid the restrictions on public transport have increased and the “Jungfraubahn” which is the train company of this region suggests to book in advance the train ticket and the seat of the train that goes to the Jungfraujoch.

I suggest that you definitely bring comfortable shoes with you, and if possible trekking shoes with trekking poles if you intend to go hiking. I also suggest to bring warm sweatshirts and jackets for the rain or at least an umbrella as here in the valley the rain will be very frequent in the evening for few hours.
