Half a mile down the beach, in the opposite direction from the pier, is Ocean Park. There are several little shops, the Soda Fountain, shuffleboard, tennis, and more beach fun! My (older) kids love body surfing in the current and finding shells and sea glass!

If you have time to dedicate a day to Peaks Island, I highly recommend it! You’ll take a short ferry from Portland’s Old Port and then soon be on the island, exploring. I recommend renting a golf cart (needs to be done in advance, online). There are 2 golf cart companies on the island) so you can explore the entire island. On the opposite side of the ferry terminal there are old military barracks you can walk through. Definitely fun for adults and older kids alike. And several beaches to explore along the way.
