Food scene

Great food, people, and atmosphere! One of my favorite places in Santo Domingo for a traditional Dominican meal! They can get very busy so try not to go right at 12pm. You are right next to the ocean!

Uber & Taxis are the fastest way to get around

In Santo Domingo there are multiple ways to get around. Uber is widely used as well as taxis. Taxis tend to be more expensive. I highly recommend Transporte Aleika (18098639972) for airport transfers, and tours. Ask for Maikel and let him know Sofia sent you! He's the absolute best. Traffic in Santo Domingo can be horrible, so please bring some patience as you are navigating the city.

Airport Transfers and Tours

Before you arrive, I would recommend pre-booking airport transfers and tours. If you are staying in Santo Domingo, the airport is about a 30 minute ride from the city. Taxis can be pricey but are always available at the airport. Tours are also great to pre-book especially if you want to spend a day at the wonderful beaches like in Boca Chica, La Romana, Bavaro or Punta Cana.

Dominican people are just the best!

Dominicans are very friendly and welcoming! Be ready for a relaxed environment (which means sometimes things are slow) and wonderful service.

Walking and Exploring

The great thing about Santo Domingo is that the Colonial city, along with other landmarks are wonderful to walk around and spend the day exploring. Most tourist attractions in the Colonial City are very inexpensive. If staying at an Airbnb like ours, please take advantage and buy groceries! This is a great way to save some money. But Dominican food is pretty cheap and there is great quality food everywhere in the city.

Comfort & Summer

Santo Domingo is hot. Its like summer year-round! But due to being so close to the water we have a wonderful breeze all the time. So days will be hot but breezy and nights are just perfect here. Bring an umbrella since we do get random rain showers from time to time!

Exchange about 100$ to DOP

If you plan on getting beers from a Colmado or leaving tips i suggest getting some Dominican pesos to have in handy should you need to leave a tip. The exchange rate is usually 1 dollar to 54 dominican pesos.
