Activities

Trenance valley is only a 15 minute walk from Pensalda and it is a beautiful place to be! There's a park with mature trees, ponds with varied birdlife and a boating lake with the Lakeside restaurant, rose gardens in summer are beautiful to walk through, Trenance heritage cottages with the Garden Cafe and museum are worth a visit, they also hold various events. Newquay Zoo is also situated in Trenance next to Waterworld swimming pool and gym, crazy golf and mini railway! Heron Tennis centre isn't far from the zoo in the same area with indoor and outdoor courts and ping pong tables. There is also a bowling club (lawn bowls) and many places to sit and relax. And you can't miss the amazing viaduct in the middle of the park!

Excellent zoo with large well-maintained living areas for the animals and a wide variety of animals to see with plenty of information boards. The grounds are well looked after and the cafe is well priced with good food. I recommend the Tropical House which is my favourite, it houses reptiles, tree frogs, tropical birds and bugs in a mini indoor rainforest with 2 floors. A great afternoon out for all the family.

Beach

Porth beach is a large family beach with lots to see and do. It is accessible by car or you can walk directly onto it from the main road. It is a long shallow inlet ideal for body boarding and swimming and exploring the rockpools at low tide. It has a couple of cafes and is lifeguarded in the summer months. If you walk over to Porth Island there are caves to explore and you can walk through to the other side at low tide under the footbridge. If you go up onto the island you will come across the remains of an Iron Age hill fort! There are information boards up there for those interested in history. The views from the top of the island are fantastic across the bay to Newquay and Whipsiderry and Watergate in the other direction. They also have football golf and an ice cream shop on the island in the summer months.

If you don't mind a lot of steps, a visit to Tolcarne beach is a great day or afternoon out. It's about 15 mins walk from us towards Newquay town centre. Look for the blue railings on your right opposite Premier Inn and there are steps down to the beach where you'll find a place for beach hire such as wetsuits and bodyboards. There is also a surf school on the beach for those wishing to learn! Pre-booking advised. At low tide the beach links up with Great Western and Lusty Glaze beaches. Please note the tide times if you go off exploring the caves! There is a large area of soft sand available at high tide on Tolcarne and also a cafe and restaurant.
