Sightseeing
The Žiče Charterhouse was founded between 1155 and 1165 (I know, right?) by Ottokar III of Styria, the Margrave of Styria and his son, Duke Ottokar IV of Styria, of the house of Traungau. Both of them were buried there. The foundation deed of Žiče Charterhouse dates back to 1165 and is archived in Styrian Provincial archive in Graz (Austria).

Boč (978 m) is the mountain from Paški Kozjak with Basališče (1272 m) in the west to Ravna gora (682 m) in Croatia. It is the easternmost part of the Karavanke.
On Boč there are habitats of rare Alpine and Dinaric plants, among which stand out Easter flower (Velikonočnoca), Turkish lily and beautiful primrose. The habitat of the Velikonočnica, which is the only one in Slovenia, was appointed a nature reserve. The flower blossoms only during Easter time.
You can hike from the foot of the mountain, from Poljčane, about 3 km and 1.5h to the top and so far back, or climb by car to the Mountain House and from there choose an easy or difficult trail, about a kilometer and 45 minutes of ascent.
At the top of Boč there is a telecommunication tower and a 20 m high steel lookout, which you can visit. From the lookout tower there is an extensive view: in the north we can see eastern Pohorje, Dravsko polje and Slovenske gorice, in the east Haloško gričevje, Plešivec, Donačka gora, Macelj, Ravna gora and lvanščica, in the southeast Medvednica, in the south Kozjansko gričevje, Posavsko hribovje, Gorjanci and Gorjanci in the distance Snežnik, in the west Konjiška gora nearby, Stenica, Paški Kozjak, Uršlja gora and Peca, in clear weather also the Savinja Alps and Julian Alps, and in the northwest Pohorje with Rogla.

The walk is also easy for children age 5 and older.

Black Lake
The Black Lake is black indeed! Its water is actually crystal clear, but organic waste of plants and animals gathers at the bottom of the lake and create a thick layer of silt which gives the lake a typical black color. It is situated in a marshy area in the middle of Pohorje woods and presents a nice spot for a short trip; a lovely path across wooden footbridges leads to it from the direction of 'Dom Na Osankarici' hut. The area around the lake is protected as a natural reserve.

The path through the Bistrica Gorge, the picturesque valley of the Bistrica stream, is full of natural sights and remains of human dwellings and work!
The trail to Bistrica Gorge begins in Zgornja Bistrica. From the waterworks the trail continues along the Bistrica stream, which is crystal clear murmurs and roars over the rocks.
After a thirty minute walk take a rest at the Roman quarry, where in former times marble was quarried for Roman necropolises in Štajerska. You will be enchanted by the Šum waterfall, which foams over 13 metres of eroded tonalite.
A little way further on you can turn to the left, where there is a steep trail that leads to Ančnikovo gradišče, the remains of a late antiquity fortress dating from the 4th century. Here during excavations forged articles were dug up, the most interesting of which is a bronze statue of Apollo.
Along the way are numerous remains of mills and sawmills, which were once driven by the Bistrica stream.
The trail through the Bistrica gorge ends in Močnik, however the trail can be continued on foot or by car towards Trije kralji, the lake Črno jezero or Areh, or you can return to Slovenska Bistrica via Urh, Tinje and Jurišna vas or via Šmartno na Pohorju.

This is our Municipality! A charming small town with almost 1000 years of history and 6K inhabitants – laid at the foot of the mysterious Konjiška gora Mountain and sunny golden wine-growing hills of Škalce.
Take a walk around this attractive medieval town and take a look at numerous monuments with horses (the name in English might be translated as Slovenian Town of Horse. Why? See bellow.)
THE LEGEND:
The legend of the dragon of Konjice says that Konjice hill is hollow from the inside and at its bottom there is a lake that was once guarded by a dragon.
When spring came, the people of Konjice had to give it a girl, otherwise it would have flooded the town. When it was the turn of the count's daughter Marjetica, the knight Jurij came to the town, fought the dragon and won.
In gratitude, he was given the Church of St. George, and to commemorate this event they chose a white horse on a green field as their coat of arms, which eventually changed to a coat of arms with a white horse on a red field due to the frequent fires in the town.
The square thus became Konjice (Horse) and the hill where the dragon lived Konjiška gora (Horse hill). In 1934 Konjice also received the adjective Slovenske (Slovenian).
