Mersey Ferries operate from just beyond this building. Opposite the ferry terminal is the entrance to the Cunard Building (to the right of the Royal Liver Building). It contains the permanent British Music Experience Exhibition. Entry fee. Great reviews. The exhibition is split into 8 zones representing musical eras from 1945 to the present day, with musical instruments to try and a show every 30 minutes. The building is worth a visit in its own right as it contained what was once the 1st class lounge for Cunard passengers crossing the Atlantic. A ticket entitles the holder to a repeat visit. Check days of opening. Walking from here inland and close to the Town Hall is the Western Approaches Museum, 1-3 Rumford Street, a “must see” for history buffs, a fascinating visual display exploring Britain’s top secret underground war bunker, 2 storeys hidden under the streets of Liverpool. Quite unique. At this point you are about a 25-minute walk from the flat.

Tate Liverpool (free galleries, except for special exhibitions) is on the far side of the dock. The Tate has a ground floor café, and there's a large, comfortable Costa coffee shop nearby. On the other three sides of the dock can be found bars and a variety of restaurants of different cuisines, all facing the dock and boats.

From the flat, walking about 15 minutes towards the Royal Albert Dock, just after the Hilton Hotel, you will find the L1 shopping centre with its array of shops, eating places and cinema. Referring to a map, it is a short walk to see Mathew Street and the site of The Cavern Club where the Beatles started performing in Liverpool. The outstanding Grade 1 neoclassical St George's Hall, opened in 1854, faces Lime Street Station, about 25/30 minutes to walk from the flat. It contains concert halls and law courts and is open for events. The impressive Walker Art Gallery is nearby on William Brown Street (closed Mondays, free admission). To the left of that is the beautifully restored Central Library (free admission, changeable timetable), and to the left of that is the World Museum Liverpool (free admission, closed Mondays) – collections of antiquities, world cultures, natural history and physical sciences.

Along the way is the Philharmonic Hall, home for world-class concerts, the beautiful Phiharmonic pub on the diagonally opposite corner with original, ornate décor (definitely worth a peek, if not a drink!), then the Everyman Theatre (behind-the-scenes tours available in the summer). In this area you will see many university buildings. Behind the Metropolitan Cathedral on Brownlow Hill is the Victoria Gallery and Museum (free admission, Tue-Sat). This 1892 Grade 2-listed Gothic building houses items collected and donated to the University of Liverpool throughout its history (fine art, sculpture, ceramics, fossils, scientific equipment, zoological specimens). The quietness of the area around the flat is minutes away from the Baltic Quarter (the creative and digital quarter of Liverpool) and Baltic Market for street food, bars, night life. Liverpool really has something for everyone.
