Food scene

This is one of our favorite nearby spots - the food is fantastic, the beer list is diverse, and the patio is great even in the winter! We recommend the Louisiana eggrolls and fried chicken on any sandwich.

This is fantastic wood-fired, chewy, thin crust pizza served in a funky spot near the train tracks. Pizza Art is BYO so stop by the Rockwell Bottle Shop to pick up something to drink. A few must-orders: bruschetta, add house-cured meat to any pizza, and end with the best tiramisu I've ever had.

Jerry's is a neighborhood institution with the largest sandwich menu you'll ever see, and the best beer menu in the neighborhood. The patio overlooks the Lincoln Square fountain and plaza, with lots of space for kids to play while you relax. Order your sandwich warm, start with the bbq chicken poppers, and finish with dessert from Geraldine's, the attached bakery.

Sightseeing in the neighborhood

Horner Park is a gigantic park just a few minutes walk from our place - it's so big you'll forget you're in the city! Stroll along the Chicago river through a native plant garden, run or bike on a paved 1 mile loop path, take the kids to the playground, or get some exercise on the courts for tennis, basketball, soccer, or baseball diamonds. From Memorial Day - October there's a farmer's market on Saturday mornings in front of the field house - stop by for fresh croissants and fruit!

The Rockwell station of the CTA brown line (the subway of Chicago) is a 10-12 minute walk through the neighborhood. From here it's about a 30 minute trip to downtown Chicago, and there are easy connections to most other parts of the city. Driving is a hassle in Chicago - take the train instead!

About 2 miles straight east of our place is the 7th largest lake in the world, with a large and beautifully soft sandy beach perfect for swimming. We recommend renting a Divvy bike or taking the Montrose bus (#78), or drive and pay to park (parking can be tough on summer weekends)

Divvy is the bicycle sharing system, which makes it quick and easy to rent a bike. Pro tip: download the app before you ride to make renting super easy, and to confirm where there are electric bikes available nearby. Wear the helmets we provide and observe all laws. It is illegal for bikes to ride on the sidewalk in Chicago.
