Obviously south Beach is a must!! Go to Ocean Drive and 5th Street. Start there. You CANNOT take alcohol on the beach (sandy area). You have to purchase it there. Take your towels, snacks and that's it. And don't litter. Walk up and down Ocean Drive all the way to 17th street, where you can go west and go to Lincoln Road Mall, open air. When paying for dinner, most places will include the tip as part of their charge and the establishment will not tell you. It will say it on your check or ask!! Never leave your drink alone. Not ever! It's a very touristy place and people are not careful with their drinking. Be safe. And definitely put on sunblock!!! Oh, yeah. Enjoy!

Shopping

Great shopping area. Marshall's for all your casual wear, shorts, T-shirts, sandals, shoes, men and women, beach towels. There's Ross in case you need a dress or suit at inexpensive price. There's Target for sporting good, Starbucks inside, inexpensive but trendy clothing and lots of items and food to purchase. The mall is surrounded by a lot of good restaurants. Visit Sakaya. It's $2 to park in the garage. Don't park on street. It's so much more expensive and you'll wind up getting a parking ticket. You can walk or ride bike from the apartment. Only 5 minutes away.

If you have the time, you must take a drive (4 hours) to Key West. The beauty of the drive is breathtaking. And once you're in Key West, you've reached the most southern tip of Florida, and the beginning of where many Cubans arrived escaping their government. It's a quaint and friendly place. If you don't want to drive, just Google the many tours that leave from Miami/Miami Beach. They're reasonably priced.

What is it? What feels like an escape from Miami—even though it’s just a short ride over the Key Biscayne bridge. And Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park feels unlike anything you’ll find on Miami Beach. Why go? The beach is wide and overlooked by a historic lighthouse (one of the oldest buildings in Miami).
