Natural Beauty / Activities in Nature

Looking to get into nature? Cibolo Nature Center has 6 miles of easy trails that guests can enjoy. We love bringing a picnic basket near the water and underneath the giant trees! Trails here range from ½ to 1/3 mile and they now connect to paths at River Road Park and the Old #9 Hike and Bike Trail (ask at visitor center). Lots of birds can be found in all areas, especially near the gift shop where feeders are maintained. Note: they have recently changed the name Cibolo Center for Conservation and fishing on Cibolo Creek at the Nature Center is catch and release. Hunting is not permitted. The 60 acre Historic Herff Farm and Homestead has recently been added to the park’s acreage and is home to the weekly Farmers Market on Saturdays, March-October.

Bring cut grapes if you want to feed the ducks please! We like to park at Peggy's on the Green and walk around the creek! Easy access, very well kept and a nice alternative route around town. Jump to Dodging Duck or Little Gretel restaurant for a little refreshment at the end of the walk. The creek is home to numerous varieties of turtles, fish, ducks and geese. The Cibolo Trail meanders through this linear park. One of the unique features of River Road Park is the dam located at the east end of the park. The sound of crashing water is mesmerizing. This park is a popular location for picnics and fishing because of its abundant wildlife and access to multiple fishing piers, public art, public restrooms, drinking fountains, and picnic tables.
