You can get sand boards from the Gordon River Cruise office, head out for the day and take a picnic! Its beautiful out on the dunes.

On the Macquarie Heads road there is a beautiful picnic area called Swan Basin. Here is the perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ. The water is very shallow so the little kids can go for a paddle. Occasionally you can see dolphins in this area too!

All of the locals go here in the summer for the kids to have a swim. There are free council BBQs here too.
Walk all the way to the end of the beach to a place we call 'the drop'. Its much quieter here. The water gets deep quickly here (hence the name) though so be careful with smaller children.

The King River Spit is only 1km up the road. Here is a very quiet place to go for a walk or drive. If you have your dog, its a great place to exercise them. The sand is a rusty colour due to the Mount Lyell Copper mine, for many years their waste flowed into the Queen and King Rivers.

This is a 40minute return walk. Super easy. A beautiful little taste of our rainforests and waterfalls.

Honestly one of the "Must Do's" in Strahan. There is a reason this play has been operating for so many years, its absolutely hilarious and so informative! Great for adults or children.
