One of our favourites. The tapas are excellent, and it is a place to sit outside on a windy day as it is well protected from the wind.

Great, healthy, food. They have good vegan food, but they are more focused on "organic", as they also do prawns, bacon etc. But it is all good. It is a wonderful place to sit - quiet and in the shadow. And there is a pool if the kids want a swim. Highly recommended!!

A big dam with some great views. You can do some nice walks around the lake (the whole walk takes 10-12 hours...). Aim for this spot but beware that Google maps does not show the fastest route. Just follow the roads: https://goo.gl/maps/wNbezxCFFh4jADYK9

Small village on top of the hills. A little cooler! If you drive up there, do not forget to stop off at the Monchique resort and spa. (There is a spa there, although i have never been inside). but is a pretty area with big trees and a couple of short walks to the water spring. Worth an hour or so. Monchique town has some good cafes and a nice centre - we like the velochique cafe, but i admit it is not for everyone.

Monchique town has some good cafes and a nice centre - we like the velochique cafe, but i admit it is not for everyone.
A stunning outlook over the atlantic ocean. There are some boardwalks here along the cost but you can also drive there. Definitely worth exploring. Start with Praia da Bordeira, and finish at the old moorish settlement (Ponta do Castelo) near the Sitio do Forno restaurant at Amado beach for a wonderful daytrip.
If you only have a couple of hours and want a short ride, head to the Ponta da Piedade for a walk along the boardwalks. Stunning scenery and there is a cafe for an ice-cream or a coffee as well. Or continue to Lagos for a brunch?

10 minute ride into town (you can take an Uber) and a wonderful lively town with a pedestrian centre. Lots of restaurants, shops and ice cream. You can book a lot of tourist tours here. Worth a visit... or 2

And if you look it up on the internet, you can also find some dinosaur footprints (walk to the rocks at the bottom of the wooden stairs on the far right of the beach. Climb the big rock at the bottom of the stairs... but please be careful!)

Sagres is the far south-west of Portugal. The fort is OK and a nice walk, but the lighthouse (Cabo de São Vicente) is slightly prettier. There are some good restaurants in town and there is a local fish restaurant for lunch down in the harbor, A Sereia, which closes at 16:00.
Aljezur is the old provincial capital of this part of the Algarve. You can park at the bottom near the bus station and walk up through a pretty little town to the fort at the top of the hill. It is a steep walk, but views are great from the fort.

This is a beautiful little town with a wonderful boardwalk along one of the nicest stretches of the coast in the Algarve. Park close to the boardwalk and walk into town and back again...
