Famous for its locally harvested steamed oysters & seafood 🦐 🎣 since 1946, we figured it must be worth the drive. As their website states, it certainly is a "unique Lowcountry seafood experience!" Reviews are mixed, most complaints are about slow service, but hey, you're in the South...what's your hurry??? We really enjoyed that slow, relaxed atmosphere, and our seafood platter and drinks were delicious, especially the fried shrimp! Best part was the waterfront dining, sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery - an undisturbed view of the river, marshes, islands, and wildlife. Some other tips: time your visit as we had a limited menu at 2pm (I bet sunsets are awesome here); even though it is casual, prices are high (we shared a seafood platter for $36); crabcakes are Southern, don't expect Old Bay/MD style; and the strawberry vodka lemonade was refreshing!

A sordid past, with 300+ years of history, this small structure has survived two wars, two major earthquakes, and multiple catastrophic fires, not to mention the numerous hurricanes and floods throughout the centuries.

Changing ownership, architectural upgrades, and surviving war & natural disasters, this family home (generations of Alstons) is now a museum, showcasing striking Greek Revival interiors, fascinating family portraits, and impressive collections of furniture and silver. The panoramic views alone from the 2nd floor piazza make this guided house tour (30-40 minutes) a memorable pit-stop. FYI, 3rd floor is owner occupied and therefore not accessible.
