Neighborhoods

The guesthouse is situated in the historic neighborhood of Monticello Park. Developed in the 1920s, our neighborhood boasts an extraordinary collection of architecture; Revival styles, English Tudor, Spanish Colonial, Greek, Italianate, Neoclassical, Mission, Craftsman, English Stone Bungalows and Arte Moderne. We encourage you to explore the neighborhood, especially Mary Louise Drive (one block over) to explore all the architectural styles. At the end of Club Drive lies Thomas Jefferson High School. Built in 1932, in the Spanish Baroque style, this high school was the the most expensive of its kind to be built in the United States.

Southtown is a hidden gem that has had a tremendous revitalization over the last 10 years. There are tons of wonderful restaurants (we recommend Bliss, Battalion, Liberty Bar and Rosarios) tiny shops and an incredible ice house named the Friendly Spot that a plethora of beer, a ton of outdoor seating all with a chill, family-friendly vibe. If you have some time to walk through the neighborhood streets along South Alamo St to be awed by the beautiful mansions sitting right along the river. Last but not least, hit the Blue Star Arts Complex to see some various local galleries. You can grab coffee at Halcyon or a beer at Blue Star brewery while you are there.

Craving Italian food that includes all the traditional dishes, plus unique plates that deserve a look/taste? Paesanos, located in Lincoln Heights, is a San Antonio institution perfect for a date night, anniversary/graduation party or a girls’ night out. I urge you to begin the meal with the Shrimp Paesano and a glass of wine from their extensive wine list.

Revered as “the best hamburger joint in the city”, Mr. Juicy does everything top notch on their simple menu. From the burgers and in-house baked buns, to the hand-cut fries and milkshakes it is all worth the calories and possibly long drive-thru. Started as a small counter service joint, celebrated SA chef, Andrew Weissman (who hung up his fine dining chef’s apron to concentrate on the more causal burger menu), this second location hopes to meet the demand of hungry locals and tourists alike.
