World class skiing that is 15 minutes away from Placid Chalet! There is a Whiteface Mountain Valley Shuttle that travels to the village of Lake Placid and back to Whiteface at various stops throughout the day. This is a great service for groups that have people that want an earlier start or ending to the day!

Check out the races or just go to see the complex. Take a run in a bobsled or skeleton- see site for tickets! New Cliff Coaster follows the old bobsled run for a thrill. There is a cross-country ski complex there also with rentals available.

Highest peak in NYS. It is one of the 46 peaks in NY that are over 4000'. The hikes to all of these are challenging and one must be prepared to do so. But oh, what a thrill they are to climb! Ask you host if you have any questions.

This trail system is a short drive away- it has some small hills to climb but great views of high peaks and Lake Placid.

This trail system is close to Henry Woods- it is more flat and more popular. Fantastic views of the high peaks!

It is an extensive trail originally made for cross country skiing and it runs behind Placid Chalet. You just need to catch the trail head up the road- take a right out of the driveway until the last house on the right- the trail will be right there on your right. It is close enough to walk to. It is great walking or biking in the summer/fall and skiing/snow shoeing in the winter.

It is an extensive trail originally made for cross country skiing and it runs behind Placid Chalet. Skate outside in the winter where Eric Heiden won 5 gold metals in 1980! This complex was just refurbished in 2021.

Small but informative museum chocked filled with Olympic artifacts, especially from the Lake Placid 1980 Olympics. Walk inside the complex to see the ice skating rinks including the 1932 rink and the Miracle on Ice rink!

I did this once and was invited on their wooden boat cruise! I have also kayaked/motor boated to their shore. They have dock staff to help!

If you go to Whiteface Mt in the summer- take the gondola to the top of the mountain or drive to the top on the Veteran's Highway. Vet's get free admission! The highway is closed later in the fall until summer.
