The 10 foot wide paved multi-use path begins at Mike Chappell Park and winds southward through scenic wooded areas to the intersection of Alabama Avenue and Spot Lane. Use of the trail is strictly limited to bicycles and pedestrians – no motorized vehicles of any kind. All dogs must be on leashes and pet waste must be removed.

Until the last few months of the Civil War, Fort Fisher kept North Carolina's port of Wilmington open to blockade-runners supplying necessary goods to Confederate armies inland.
