Trust me and skip the riverwalk restaurants if you’re looking for the best tex-mex food. San Antonio is considered home of the breakfast taco by many, but it also holds the highest number of Tex-Mex — a genre of food combining traditional Mexican food with a Texas twist — restaurants in the state. Here is a list of some of the more notable ones nearby.

Seriously amazing Vietnamese food. It's fairly new to the city but it's already making a huge impact in the area. I highly recommend it. It's not a Pho place though.
