Kiefernstrasse is a whole street of interestingly painted houses. You may reach it by taking the bus 732 to the stop "Oberbilker Markt/Warschauer Straße" and walking down to Fichtenstraße. An impressive sight that's definitely a must if you are visiting Düsseldorf. Just make sure to visit it within daylight to enjoy all the details. If you are hungry afterward, you may like to visit Lu Fung - a big Chinese restaurant located around the corner. They have a decent buffet and a variety of à la carte dishes.

If you go for the fish (which I highly recommend, fish there is fresh and delicious), you can also come later, lunch is until 2 pm. On the weekend you can also enjoy a cheaper lunch menu during the day or go for an expensive dinner any day (but it will be worth it, just make sure to reserve!).

A vegan buffet restaurant everyone will enjoy. If you don't know it's vegan, you will not notice that. A great variety of delicious food (also meat-like), topped with homemade desserts... Definitely worth a visit no matter your food preferences!

You can walk to this Edeka from the house. It's a huge one, you will find everything you need if you don't get lost. There is also a special counter with fresh fish beside normal meat and cheese Edeka counters.

Südpark is also equipped with a cafe where you can enjoy food or cakes and if you are with kids, they will enjoy it as well: there is a lot of space to play outside and a corner with toys inside. A free petting zoo is also located there. It can get very crowded if the weather is nice.

New taxi (carpooling) alternative in Düsseldorf
If you are tired or it's late and public transportation seems to take too long, try CleverShuttle - new taxi alternative in Düsseldorf. It works as carpooling, so you may be having a detour if someone else is picked up or dropped off, but you will be taken from door to door. With the code 0txx2k you will get 10 Euro on your account, which in most cases will be enough for one free ride. Just install the app in advance and then you have one more way to move around. All the shuttle cars are electric!

Install an app to get various transportation options
I recommend "Mobil in Düsseldorf" as an App where you can see many alternatives at the same time: public transport connections (including buying a ticket through the app), carsharing, bikesharing, electric scooters, taxi. Select you way to go! Getting to and from the airport - S11
There are two stations at the DUS airport: Flughafen Terminal and Flughafen Bahnhof. "Flughafen Terminal" is the one you can access directly from the building (on the arrivals level, you will find the entrance near McDonald's). The S11 line will take you to the main station in 13 minutes. I recommend installing the app (see another advice) before, as the ticket machines often have lines in front of them and you can't buy your ticket inside the train! You need a normal A3 (2,90) ticket to go anywhere in Düsseldorf including changing your means of transportation.

Getting to and from the airport via SkyTrain
The big train station (where regional trains stop) can be accessed via SkyTrain from the main terminal. Please note that you are officially required to have a valid ticket when entering the SkyTrain, although I never saw anyone checking it. Anyways, it is better to get your ticket before entering the SkyTrain. See another piece of advice for an app recommendation to avoid the hassle around ticket machines.

Free museums!
The following museums are for free on Sundays and during the last operation hour: Heinrich-Heine-Institut, Theatermuseum (Theater Museum), Stadtmuseum (City Museum), SchifffahrtMuseum (Sailing Museum), Goethe-Museum, Filmmuseum (Cinema Museum) and Hetjens-Museum.

24/48 hour tickets
If you are going to move around with public transportation, 24/48 hour tickets may be interesting for you. They are valid not for the day, but for 24/48 hours from the moment you bought them (in the app) or stamped them (if you buy from the machine) and if you are traveling as a group, it's way cheaper to buy a ticket for several people than several tickets for each individually. You can also buy "EinfachWeiter" ticket for 6,80 to go to Cologne or Aachen, for example. That's usually cheaper than a normal ticket there!
