Neighborhoods

In general, it is always nice to take a drive around Lake Rosseau and visit the smaller villages around the Lake. Port Sandfield is the first stop and is the hub of Lake Joseph and Lake Rousseau. Here you will find an original old swing bridge that if you are lucky enough you will see one of the two magnificent steam ships passing thru on tour. (The Sequin and the Wenonah). They are great to take a ride on and their is an entire museum dedicated the the wooden boat and steamship era that is a 30 minute drive to around Lake Muskoka to Gravenhurst called Grace and Speed. But back to Port Stanfield there are stores, a marina that makes lattes and across the road a bakery with daily made blueberry donuts As you keep travelling north thru Port Sandfield you will see Lake Joseph on your left and Rousseau on your right. The sunset over Joe here are magnifucent. The new town you hit will be Minett. Named after the famous Minett Shields made that made world famous wooden boats. If you follow signs to Cleveland's House you can visit the original and still functional Cleve's. They have a restaurant and boathouse with a restaurant called Pie that serves amazing woodfire pizza and great Margaritas. A visit to the first JW Marriott must be taken while you are there to see the amazing Island dotted views across Lake Rousseau. Also visit Abbeys Bakehouse located in between Cleve's and the Rousseau for their world famous butter tarts. The little church was relocated from the East Coast and was soon known as the infamous Abbeys Bakehouse at Wallace Marina. There is also an interesting pop up culture happening there of container stores like LuLu Lemon and many others. Next stop is a ten minute further drive to the Village of Rosseau. Filled with Charm and a great restaurant named Crossroads is worth a visit. Continuing around the Lake on 141 toward Windermere. You must stop and visit the village of Windermere and the Magestic Windermere hotel. There are two restaurants and patios and the view across Rosseau again is spectacular. Sometimes there are weddings or lawn events happening . From there you take Brackenrig Road back hone to Port Carling. Port Carling has its own thing happening with shops and restaurants. The Library across the road from my house is worth a visit. Its lovely. My house over looks the small locks with Bartleman Island on the other side. You can walk down and see both locks and visit the island museum if it is open. That should get you started. Lol
