The Park is located along the river Maas and next to the Euromast and Scheepvaartkwartier. From nearly any place in the park you've got a magnificient view at the Euromast. The eastern part of the park dates from 1853 and was designed by architect Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul in English landscape style. The park was extended in 1886 when the western part, also called the Hill was added to the park. The park next to the Euromast doesn't have a name and is simply called het park, but sometimes it's also called the Euromast park or Zochers park, named after the architect. You can relax in this green oasis and escape from the hectics of the nearby city centre. Rotterdam's biggest park is the park at Lake Kralingen, which is located a bit further away from the city centre.

Rotterdam Zoo is situated in the district of Blijdorp in Rotterdam Noord. Stroll across the African Savannah and stand face-to-face with the giraffes. Visit Bokito the gorilla and his family. Walk on the seabed in the indoor Oceanarium and meet stingrays and sharks. Stroll through the largest butterfly paradise of Europe: Amazonica, filled with fragrant flowers, thousands of South American butterflies, anacondas and piranhas that love to bite. It is possible to book tours and packages. During a tour on foot let an expert guide show you places that visitors don’t usually see. One of the options is Blijdorp by Night: an after-hours tour of the zoo at dusk which includes a dinner buffet. Rotterdam Zoo is accessible by both public transport and car. The zoo is a 15-minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station. Still prefer to come by car? Take the A20 exit ‘Blijdorp’.

Buurten

Once Rotterdam’s Chinatown, attracting homesick sailors and lusty whores in equal measure, Katendrecht is now home to the hip and happening. Over the past few years, this peninsula has become one of the liveliest parts of town without losing its rougher edges. Young couples bought a fixer-upper in the neighbourhood or opened a restaurant, shop or coffee bar. Cute little eateries, ice salons and bars are around every corner these days, making Katendrecht a dream destination for foodies. One of the old Fenixloodsen quayside warehouse now accommodates the Fenix Food Factory, an indoor market for fresh foods where you can shop for authentic and traditional products: From bread straight out of the oven to homemade sausage and homebrewed cider. The sidewalk café on the waterfront offers an enchanting view of the sunset over the Maas River, and the Kaapse Brouwers brew a fantastic array of beers. The food trucks that park there, a different one every week, serve fresh, tasty food for a very affordable price. The island’s pride and joy is the ss Rotterdam, a steam-powered cruise ship that sailed back and forth between Rotterdam and Manhattan in the 1960s and is now permanently moored at the tip of the Katendrecht peninsula. Take a tour through the ship’s gangways and halls, and finish with a drink on the promenade deck, complete with swimming pool.

Delfshaven is one of the most pleasant districts in Rotterdam. Here, you can still feel the atmosphere of pre-war Rotterdam. Discover special places like the Pilgrim Fathers’ Chuerch (Pelgrimvaderskerk), city brewery De Pelgrim, and De Delft, a replica of an 18th-century warship. Delfshaven is a small inner-city harbor with many historical buildings. Unlike most of Rotterdam, Delfshaven was spared during the bombings of World War II. If you want to get an impression of what Rotterdam looked like before the bombings, you should go and visit Delfshaven. The rich history of this area, the architecture and the many bars and restaurants make your visit worthwhile.

One of the highest towers in Holland can be found in Rotterdam: the Euromast. Architect Maaskant designed the tower for the occasion of the Floriade. Visitors can take an elevator up and enjoy the spectacular view. The view from the tower is spectacular. On a clear day, you can see the Belgian city of Antwerp some 80 kilometers away. A ticket grants access to the 100 m platform and the Euroscoop at a height of 185 meters. The restaurant can be found at 100 meters. This is where you can enjoy a real ‘high’ tea. Brunch, lunch and dinner are among the possibilities. Did you know you can also spend the night in the Euromast? High above the city you will find several luxury suites, where you may well enjoy the most beautiful sunrise and sunset ever.

The Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen) in Rotterdam are one of the city’s most iconic attractions. Designed by Dutch architect Piet Blom, this residential development stands apart as its homes are literally cubes, tilted over by 45 degrees. Curious visitors can learn more about these apartments by exploring the Show Cube Museum (Kijk-Kubus). Or complete a memorable trip to the harbor city by spending a night in a cube.
