Der erste Ireneturm wurde 1890 errichtet und war 23m hoch. Der Turm ist nach Prinzessin Irene von Preußen, der Tochter des Großherzogs Ludwig IV. von Hessen-Darmstadt, benannt. Der neue Ireneturm wurde 1910 erbaut und ist 27m hoch. Er ist eines der Wahrzeichen der Region Überwald. Seit 2. Mai 2013 ist der Aussichtsturm aus Sicherheitsgründen gesperrt. Er besteht hauptsächlich aus Weichholzelementen, die durch Borkenkäfer und Fäulnis beschädigt wurden.
