The Passage is our favourite summer pub, and definitely our favourite of Topsham’s pubs to eat in. Friendly staff, and a great range of drinks including a selection of local gins and real ales. The menu is great comfort pub food often featuring a variety of excellent specials all made with local ingredients. Top tips: if it’s a clear day it’s the best view for sunset in all of Topsham. Sit outside on the benches for a sundowner. In the winter months, Tuesdays are quiz nights so get along and enter your team!

The Pig & Pallet is a great place for all things meaty (though the vegetarian selection is good too - I’d recommend the macaroni cheese). Run by the same guys behind the award winning Good Game Co, the affectionately known ‘P&P’ is a great relaxed place for all ages and all occasions. The restaurant is built entirely out of pallets and the walls are adorned with pig-related paraphernalia.

If you’re looking for something a little more fancy, and still want to stay in Topsham, The Salutation Inn is the one. Booking is fairly essential for the evenings, but come here for Michelin level dining and an incredible selection of wines. Top tip: If you want to experience a taste of the Salutation service and food without the dinner-time price tag, head there for lunch in The Glasshouse which is next to the restaurant. Perfect for lunch or afternoon tea!

Outdoor activity
Walks, cycling, and time on the water.
This is the place to go to hire bikes and make the most of cycling around the Exe Estuary cycle trail. Liz will sort you out with helmets and bikes, and give you a map of the route. Top tips: The Exe estuary trail is a circular route in the summer months due to the Exmouth to Starcross Ferry. Cycle down to Exmouth and the beach, get the ferry to starcross and cycle back the other side all the way to Topsham via The Turf and Double Locks pubs. If you want a slightly shorter route, get the Topsham ferry across the Estuary. Just check your times so you don’t get stuck - the tides affect the running on a daily basis. In the summer months they also rent Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs) so you can have an adventure on the water!

Breakfast/lunch spots
Perfect cafes with delicious food and great coffee.
Sara’s is a must for some of the best pastries you’ve ever tasted, and the best coffee in town. Top tips: Sara is Portuguese and makes fantastic Pastel de Nata. Also, if you bring your mug they’ll put your takeaway coffee in that for you to drink back at Beam Cottage.

This beautiful crêperie is one of our favourite lunch spots. Run by a French/Flemish couple whose food is all delicious - it’s a must visit on your trip to Topsham. Top tip: Thursdays-Saturdays, Raph & Lizzie open for dinner. The evening menu is divine but booking is recommended as they fill up fast!

Sightseeing
Topsham museum is only open in the summer months, and is run entirely by volunteers. Head here to learn about the fascinating history of the Dutch port town Topsham. There’s an excellent cafe too! Top tip: Topsham museum has a small but beautiful garden that is always open to the public. It’s a great spot to sit on the bench and watch sunset from.
