It is impossible to talk about Nice without mentioning the famous “Promenade des Anglais”. Once the favorite winter holiday destination for the English (from which it takes its name), it is now the spearhead of the promotion of tourism in Nice abroad. It is on the prom' that 2 of Nice's 3 5-star hotels are located. World-famous, this 7km palm-lined promenade runs from the Château hill to Nice airport. If you are coming to Nice for the first time, we recommend that you do at least the part that goes from the old Nice to the Negresco Hotel, via the Albert 1er Park and the Palais de la Méditerrannée. If you want to do the entire English walk, it is best to rent a bike or rollerblades!

The hill of the Castle The Castle is the park located on the hill overlooking the old Nice, which owes its name to the military fortress that overlooked the bay of Nice from the 11th to the 18th century. This park is particularly worth it for the different views it offers of the city, Baie des Anges, the port and the mountains. You have 5 points of view from the hill of the Castle: • At the very top, with a view of the airport and the mountains • Close to the air of games for children, view on the port and the hill of Mount Boron, • Belllanda Tower: view of the Baie des Anges • Belvedere near the exit of the elevator • Cascade du Château, an artificial waterfall, but very pretty! You can walk up and down the Castle or take the elevator. We recommend that you take at least one of the walking routes by the stairs, as this allows you to pass through the Bellanda Tower lookout we mentioned above. If you go down the other side, take a walk through the cemetery of the Castle, which also offers a very beautiful view of the city. To do at the end of the day to enjoy the sunset!

Go to the beach in Nice If the beach of Nice is pretty in photo, with its large pebbles, it is not necessarily the most comfortable in the world! As for swimming, it's the same thing, in Nice, the water quickly becomes very deep, so it's not really ideal for snorkeling or playing in the water for example! For this, we recommend that you go to Villefranche sur Mer or Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. And if you like to sunbathe for hours, you can go to one of Nice's private beaches, such as Castel plage for example (at the foot of the Castle) or others if you want to do water activities such as parasailing, the up paddle stand or the towed buoy!

The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Nice The Cathedral of Saint Nicolas in Nice, classified as a historical monument, is the most important religious building of Orthodox worship outside Russia. Even if very far from the kind of things you expected to do in Nice, it is worth taking a look, if only to appreciate the contrast between the architecture and the Mediterranean vegetation and even the palm trees that are just around! It is also possible to visit the inside of the cathedral.

Walking on the coastal path This path, very little known to tourists, is in 2 parts and allows you to walk from Nice to Villefranche sur Mer, while following the sea for 90% of the time. • The first part starts from Coco Beach and takes you up to Cap de Nice by a series of stairs, in order to go around the cliffs of Palais Materlinck. • The second part of the coastal path begins with a descent down the stairs into the large bend, after the Palais Materlinck and allows you to reach the Darsse de Villefranche The walk is not very long, if you want to do it all from Nice, it takes about 1h30-2h depending on where you are leaving from. It is quite possible to do only one of the 2 parts. If you only want to do the second one (30- 45 minutes), you can take the bus number 100 from the port of Nice to the "English hospital" stop. The beginning of the shoreline trail is about 200m further on, in the bend. To return to Nice, take bus 81 or 100 to Villefranche sur Mer. A section allowing to pass through the cliffs was currently under study, which would allow to do Nice - Villefranche-sur-Mer entirely by the seaside, but it seems that the project is unfortunately at a standstill.

Mount Boron is a Mediterranean forest located on a hill to the east of the city on which the Mount Alban fort is located. It offers many walks with very beautiful views of the Baie des Anges and the bay of Villefranche. Don't miss the Mont Alban fort at the top! It is really a great activity to do in Nice, and the view is sublime To get to Mont Boron, take the city bus number 14 from Nice.

This course is very picturesque. A must see place in a visit to Nice, it is the soul of the old town and its focal point. Surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants, it is constantly lively from 6am to late at night all year round. From Tuesday to Sunday, it hosts the traditional market with its fruit and vegetable stalls and the must-see flower market. Monday is the day of antique dealers and other flea markets: there are more or less rare objects from all periods. After this walk, you can also awaken your taste buds with local specialities: focaccia, socca, bread sticks and other pissaladières... In the evening, the view of the illuminated castle hill is enchanting.

Place Saint-François takes its name from the Franciscan convent (13th century), abandoned during the Revolution and then demolished. From the convent of the Friars Minor of St. Francis, only a tiny part of the cloister remains today. The recently restored clock tower dominates the lively square that hosts the famous fish market from Tuesday to Sunday around its small dolphin fountain.

Musées / Museums
Our favourite museums in which we regularly enjoy spending time.
Inaugurated in 1963 on the second floor of the Villa des Arènes, situated within the archeological site in Cimiez, the Musée Matisse holds the artist’s and his heirs’ gifts to the City of Nice. In 1989, the Archeological Museum, which shared the same building, moved out to its own dedicated building to launch a remodeling of the Museum. Architect Jean-François Bodin rethought the interior spaces of the old Genovese villa and conceived the expansion that accommodated a vast foyer, an auditorium and a bookshop. The new building was inaugurated in 1993. An educational workshop was added in 2002, a Cabinet des dessins in 2003. Classified as “Musée de France,” the Musée Matisse covers a total surface of 2,800 m2, of which 1,200 m2 of exhibition spaces spans the villa and the expansion. In 2013, the ceramic La Piscine, a gift from Claude and Barbara Duthuit, was installed in a dedicated room, on the entrance level. In 2017, a renovation campaign commenced. It began with a recasting of the visitors’ itinerary, the remodeling of the entrance space and the installation of educational devices. The Musée Matisse is part of a vast patrimonial complex of the Cimiez site that includes the Roman arenas and ruins, a garden with hundred-years old olive trees, as well as the Cimiez monastery. Located in the heart of Nice, MAMAC (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) opened in 1990. Its collection, focused on the postwar era comprises more than 1.300 works from 300 artists. Displayed on 2.400 square meters the collection offers a focus on the relationship between European New Realism and the American expression of the art of assemblage and of Pop Art, linking regional and international artistic history. Two major actors of the art of the XXth century are permanently on display: Yves Klein, the fantastic inventor of the blue monochromes, fire paintings and Anthropometries! His solo room has no equivalent in Europe and is presented thanks to the cooperation of the Archives Yves Klein. Niki de Saint Phalle, iconic female artist, inventor of the Shooting Paintings and of the voluptuous nanas gave a great donation to the MAMAC in 2001 offering the museum the opportunity of being the second most important collection of her works in Europe.
