This is only included since it's a short minute walk from our place. It has typical cafe food - I recommend their Nutella Crepes (overpriced compared to rest of the city but you pay for convenience). A mini-mart by the same name is located next door - and that too is pricey but useful if you want to grab a quick snack.

On first sight, Trinity Bellwoods is only a park. Upon closer inspection, in the summer Trinity represents urban Toronto. The park is abuzz with people of all shapes and sizes - playing sports (tennis, volleyball etc.), doing yoga or engaging in a plethora of other summertime activities. The park is big enough to accommodate everyone - from the little kids taking their first laps in the pool to the veterans playing badminton on the volleyball courts (because why not?) to the hipster smoking weed..to the homeless who sleep on the park benches. The park represents downtown Toronto even if it isn't always pretty (I mean, no one should be homeless. Wtf Toronto?).

Essentials

It has higher prices than Walmart but is far more accessible. Shoppers has numerous outlets all over Toronto and is very convenient to shop at even if it is the evil, corporate branded store that is probably driving out mom & pop convenience stores. But it does have everything from toilet paper to soap to chocolates and bread and milk and ice cream...and everything in between.

Getting Around

The intersection of Fort York and Fleet is where the Harborfront 509 Streetcar stops. The streetcar goes all the way to Union station, which connects to Line 1 (Yonge/University/Spadina Line). To connect to Line 2 (Bloor/Danforth), take the Bathurst 511 bus to Bathurst station from the same intersection (but across the street). Both 509 and 511 are very frequent - running at about 5-6 minute intervals. The 121 Fort York/Esplanade Bus stops at the same intersection, before going along Fort York towards Union. The bus runs every 15 minutes but goes to St. Lawrence Market and Distillery District - both tourist hotspots.

Numerous reasons. The place is bubbling with life and character. You'll find an area of Toronto that is gradually being gentrified but still retains much of its old charm. It has restaurants, bars, coffee shops, a park but most of all Kensington is home to the eccentrics, the oddballs and the people who don't conform to society's norms. You will see artists and musicians and all kinds of people...in a word, it's eclectic.

http://www.blogto.com/libertyvillage/ Liberty Village is condo central - so not the place if you really want to get a sense of what Toronto's like. However, it has a lot of places to eat, drink and shop, and is a very walkable neighborhood. You should check it out if you don't want to go too far (as LV is within walking distance from my place) and want to have a relaxing evening, but ultimately it's an enclave for condo-dwellers who IMO live in a bubble (literally, even if they are otherwise the most well-informed people on earth). Don't expect to encounter Toronto's famed diversity.

The islands are located south off the coast of Toronto, and can be accessed via a short but scenic ferry ride (from Queens Quay Station). The islands - which are a car-free zone, offer a great place for picnics, and to laze around in the ample green space. Center Island (the most popular destination) can get busy but still has quiet spots. There is an amusement park for kids and a small water strip for canoeing/paddling. The only downside is the limited food options as the restaurant is overpriced and has bland food, while Subway and Pizza Pizza are perfunctory.
