Our Favorite Places To Eat
We love food, particularly when it's cooked over a campfire which is why we included the Monroe Store and Marty's 1st Stop. If you want a great dining in experience, we would recommend, in order:
Rabbit Hill Inn
Polly's Pancake Parlor (breakfast and lunch)
Littleton Freehouse and Brewery
Farm to Fire Pizza
Schilling's
The restaurant at Rabbit Hill Inn is amazing, but pricey. Expect to spend upwards of $200 for a full course meal and wine. They do have a dress code which sometimes is hard with camping and is usually adults only. However, for a very special night out, the Rabbit Hill Inn is the best place to go, followed by a romantic evening on our dock watching the moon and stars.

One of two pizza places we recommend. Schilling's is a great place for a beer and a different kind of pizza experience. It's all thin crust and very yummy. There is also a wooden covered walking bridge that goes over the Ammonoosuc River that people swim in.

Excellent pizza with a small town feel. Monroe is a very small town, about 30 minutes from the campsite. The pizza is excellent and cooked in a wood fired oven. The veggies are all local and some are grown in the owners backyard garden.

Marty's is a local favorite for it's steaks and seafood, as well as gas and small grocery store. It is about 20 minutes from the campsite. The steak tips are great on the campfire.

Best little country store in the area. Their chicken wings come in different rubs and spices including beer can, maple, garlic and lemon. Their steaks are also great, but we go for the wings. Over the campfire with some apple and ash wood, their is no better tasting wings. Route 135, the only road through Monroe, is beautiful and follows the Connecticut River and has great mountain views of Vermont.

Next to Rabbit Hill Inn, this is the best food experience we have found in the area. The prices are reasonable, the beer and mixed drinks are great and the atmosphere inside is very relaxing. Everything is delicious, and they should charge more for the food than they do.

Best pancakes you will ever have. We always get the sampler and we particularly love the oatmeal buttermilk pancakes and the cornmeal pancakes. There are a number of other flavors, but those are our favorites. Call ahead, during foliage season it can be up to a two hour wait for a table - it's that good of food.

Sightseeing
Littleton
The best downtown experience in the local area.
Excellent place to hike and sight-see. You will need to get to the trails early because the scarce parking fills up fast. Otherwise you will need to park at the Tram parking area and take a shuttle to the hiking areas inside the notch.
