The Humboldthain urban park, finished in 1876, became in 1942 the site of two large flak towers. The northern tower, due to its location near the Ringbahn tracks, was not blown up after World War II. Partly interred by rubble it today serves as a viewpoint and climbing wall with tours through the interior available at Berliner Unterwelten.

105 BrunnenstraßeFrom 1949 Gesundbrunnen (as then part of Wedding) belonged to the French sector of West Berlin, while the neighbouring localities of Mitte, Pankow and Prenzlauer Berg were parts of East Berlin. The border between the sectors and, from 1961 to 1989, the Berlin Wall ran along the Nordbahn railway and the divided Bernauer Straße. This street became famous for tunnels dug under it as well as for daring escape jumps from windows of the apartment blocks in the eastern part of the city, down to the street which itself belonged to the French sector.

It is also a very versatile place as its ambience changes a lot depending on the day and time. For instance it is the perfect place to work on your computer while having a coffee, but if you go on a Friday after 8 p.m... you will find that people bring their vinyls there to be played (whatever they are)!

Their busy programme full with international concerts, screenings and roundtables gives life to our neighbourhood and inspires critical thinking on social and ecological issues. But that is not everything that makes Bekech special. Bekech doesn't charge you for what you consume with them, but for the time you spend there at a cost of 5cent/minute. During your visit you will be allowed to serve yourself some food from their vegan buffet, to have some drinks, surf online or read any of their books. Then before leaving you can decide how much to pay according to how much you feel you consumed, being the price previously mentioned (3€/h) the only minimum required.

Best neapolitan Pizza in the area and definitely one of the best in Berlin! My personal suggestion? Try the pizza Buffala. Simple and delicious.
