My favorite restaurants, bars and recommendations on things to do

Bars: Himkok (in Storgata 27) is cool. On the top 20 list of the coolest bars in the world. The Thief Hotel Bar at Tjuvholmen makes amazing cocktails and it’s one of the top rated hotels in the world. Check out their roof top for amazing cocktails:) Another great roof top bar is Q lounge at the top of design hotel Grimms Grenka in downtown Oslo. Otherwise my rooftop is also very great for having drinks in local and budget friendly style :) Aker Brygge: In Tjuvholmen/Aker Brygge area you have a lot of posh restaurants and bars on the sea front in general. Another area for cool bars, clubs and places to eat is Youngstorget/Torggata area with loads of different venues. Two really great restaurants in Young’s Gate is Lulu and Nemesis. Lulu does Japanese/Peruvian food and it’s delicious! Two bars called "Andre til høyre" and "Håndslag" is located in the same house as well as some other bars. Address is Youngs Gate 19. Great cocktails! Torggata/Youngstorget: In Torggata Taco Republic does great Mexican food. Arakataka is another great restaurant in the area with set menus food and wine for fairly good prices. There is also a brand new street food hall located in Torggata Bad in this area. Strøget passasjen is one street full of funky bars and places to eat. Dinner is an Asian restaurant downtown close to the Nathional Theatre, that serves lovely Asian food. Grünerløkka - my local area: Closer to the apartment in the Grünerløkka area there is also a lot of good restaurants and bars. Nedre Løkka cocktail bar has amazing drinks. Delicatessen is the best tapas restaurant in town. Next door is Le Benjamin for French dining, Sudöst has great assign cross over food, has a cool and festive menu and plays chill house music. Kamai serves lovely Japanese and Korean food and have both a restaurant and a café section. Villa Paradiso has great pizzas and new local restaurant Ben Reddik has great modern Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. There are also quite a few cheaper places to drop in for a quick meal or get take aways (or use foodora). I use Restaurant East in Markveien a lot for cheap Asian (Sushi/Thai) take aways. Vin og Vinyl is a great wine bar with beautiful interior located in Markveien. Art Bar in Københavngata/Dælenenggata is a new and popular bar. Next to it, also in Dælenenggata, is also a new restaurant that supposed to be good, called The Hot Shop. You’re also very close to Vulkan which has Oslo’s biggest food hall + there are some other bars and restaurants in the area. Just walk to the right when you walk out of the apartment and you get to the river in 1 minute, and from there a beautiful 5-7 walk by the river down to Vulkan. You should definitely walk up and down the river as it’s a really beautiful walk with waterfalls, beautiful nature in general, bars, restaurants along the way. You can walk all the way downtown by the river. Sushi: Oslo has a lot of great sushi restaurants, and the very best one is Alex Sushi located at either Solli Plass or Tjuvholmen. Also Noodee in Barcode is pretty good. Katla is a fairly new and great restaurant downtown (not sushi), but you need to book ahead in order to get a table. Gay/Lesbian: For gay and lesbian travelers wanting to check out some local gay venues, they come and go very quickly. But a few venues have survived throughout the years. Elsker is a three storey (3rd floor not always open...) club for gays, lesbians and also a growing crowd of straight people that wants to party with the gays... The crowd is fairly young and they play everything from Britney Spears and Eurovision songs downstairs, to modern hits on second floor and house/techno music on 3rd floor. London Pub is the oldest gay bar in Oslo. Slightly older crowd downstairs, and younger dancer crowd upstairs. Then there's SLM club for the fetish lovers and Bob's Pub for more mature people. There are also quite a few concept gigs around in the city from time too time. Summer: In the summer season, from May 1st, you should take the boats from Aker Brygge out to the small islands in the Oslo arkapelago. You can travel on the same ticket you use for the tram as the ticket is valid for 1 hour. My favourite island is Gressholmen. Bring picnic stuff or go to the restaurant on the island and go swimming... Hovedøya is the closest island, Langøyene the one furthest away and my 2nd favourite... Also check out Botanisk Hage (Botanical Garden) in Tøyen next to the Munch Museum. If you're into plants and flowers you will not be disappointed! If you are over at Tøyen, check out Tøyen Torg for a meal or a drink as it has become quite trendy. Bygdøy/Huk area is another nice place for beaches or walks in the woods. This is also where many museums are, so if you are doing city hop on off bus, make sure to jump off here. Frognerparken/Vigelandsparken is a must even though all the guide books also says it is...
