Dove soggiornare a Renwick
Yetlands Cottage is a cottage in the delightful Cumbrian village of Renwick. The cottage adjoins the owners' house, Thackmoor Nook, but has separate access. Parking is private and a few yards from the cottage front door. Dogs are welcome. The cottage has 150 excellent Reviews on Air BNB and 42 on Trip Advisor. The cottage also has the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. The wood burning stove is easy to work, efficient and lovely to sit in front of. The M6 is about 20 minutes away.
The porch is suitable for walking/cycling gear. The living space has a wood-burning stove, sofa, armchair, dining table and chairs, TV and DVD player. The kitchen area has an oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, crockery, pans etc. Upstairs is the bedroom with king size bed, built in wardrobe and bathroom. In the bathroom is a shower and bath. The bedroom has plenty of space for a cot and we have a new travel cot (August 2019). Upstairs the original wood window beams can be seen. We provide enough fuel for the stove free. Pets are welome but we ask that they are not left on their own in the cottage and not allowed up on the furniture. We also ask that dogs are not allowed to foul the garden area. There is a country lane 20 yards from the cottage which many owners use for dog walking. Guests are welcome to use the garden, garden seats and the wild flower area. There are garden seats, great for relaxing on. In the garage we have a BBQ for guests use. This can be used in the lawn area which is accessed from your patio door. We make available fuel and lighting fuel and suggest a contribution of £3 in the honesty box. In the adjoining barn we have a cross trainer and gym bike which guests can use. We also have a table football game! The property is on the edge of the village and there is no through traffic passing by, making it very quiet and safe. Opposite us is a farm barn and field which has lambs in spring. Renwick is ideal for walking, cycling and relaxing. The cottage is close to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty. For both walking and cycling there is an excellent variety of routes immediately from the house such as Renwick Fell on the lower Pennines and the C2C is nearby. Sunset from Renwick Fell, looking across the Eden Valley to the Lakes is often stunning. We have 2 bikes that are available for guests at no cost. Dick and Kath, the owners, are keen on outdoor activities and can offer advice on routes. They also provide written guides for some local walks. The cottage has a customised OS map on the wall which shows the local area and centred on Renwick. We also provide an OS map of the area. We have a wide range of leaflets and books on walks and attractions in the area, including dog friendly walks, pubs and cafes.
This is a quiet, relaxing location on the edge of a small rural village. There is very little through traffic in the village and the small lane next to the cottage only leads to one house further down the lane. There are many walks in the area and before guests arrive we send a great deal of information about walks and the area. Dick and Kath are keen walkers and can also offer advice if needed on walks on the fells and on the roads, which are quiet and safe. Kirkoswald is 4 miles away and has a village shop (which also has coffee and sandwiches), doctors surgery and 2 pubs. The Fetherson Arms in Kirkoswald in 2012 won Pub Of The Season, in 2014 won Pub Of The Year and was a finalist for the Solway CAMRA Award in 2015. The Highland Drove pub in Great Salkeld has the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. Kirkoswald won an award in the 2016 Britain in Bloom competition. In another mile Lazonby has a Co-op supermarket, post office and train station. Penrith has a large range of supermarkets like Morrisons, Sainsburys and Booths if you are coming south up the M6. There is a small Co-Op supermarket at Lazonby CA10 1BG 01768898210 (5 miles away) and if you are coming into Renwick from the M6 you will almost certainly pass through Lazonby. It is open 7.30-8 each day and 9-1 Sundays. It has a full range of groceries (meat, fresh bread etc.) and a Post Office. Kirkoswald has a small village shop which is open daily and Sunday, 4 miles away. If you get stuck, for instance for essentials like milk, knock on our door! The village shop at Kirkoswald and the Coop at Lazonby have ATM machines. The Church of England church in Renwick often has summer jams and marmalade with an honesty box – always scrummy! Penrith is 20 minutes travel and has a cinema and other services expected in a large town. There is easy access to the Lake District from the cottage and Ullswater is about 30 minutes drive. Hadrian's Wall at Birdoswald is also about 30 minutes drive. On the way is the small market town of Brampton. The present church is a splendid example of the work of the Pre-Raphaelites. This is the only church built by the architect Philip Webb and is adorned by an exquisite set of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and manufactured by William Morris. There is lots to do in the area. The large Celtic Stone Circle of Long Meg and her Daughters is nearby. There is a working watermill at Little Salkeld about 5 miles away which has an excellent cafe and you can see the mill working. A short and easy walk takes you to Lacy's Caves, beside the Eden where in the 18th century a local landowner stored his wine - sadly now gone! This is is a lovely walk along the side of the Eden and salmon can sometimes be seen. Otters have returned. The Settle to Carlisle train line stops at Lazonby about 5 miles away and makes a great day out, going across the Ribblehead Viaduct. Kirkoswald has a lovely church dating from the 12C. The RSPB site at Geltsdale is 25 minutes away and has Dark Sky Discovery Site status. Keswick has the Theatre by the Lake which has year round professional productions.

A beautiful one bedroom wooden hut situated in the heart of the Eden Valley. Hidden amongst the trees is this lovely hut for up to 2 people with an veranda to peruse the local scenery. 2 chairs and all cooking implements including a gas BBQ and a table are provided. Moreover, enjoy toasting marshmallows over a fire pit with locally sourced logs and kindling.
We are perfectly situated on the cycling Coast to Coast route at the foot of the Peninnes, an ideal location to spend a relaxing but rejuvenating evening before the big climb up Hartside. Alternatively, leave the Pod, amble along the river to Lacey's Caves, walk around the stone circle Long Meg and have a relaxing treat in The Watermill in Little Salkeld.
The hut is situated in an amazing space between woodland and a privately owned sports field with full access to guests. Also available to guests is our communual area, the Man Shack. Sit by the cosy woodburner on those evenings that are just that little bit nippy to sit outside. You can walk to nearby stone circle Long Meg or Lacey's caves by the River Eden and finish with a well deserved treat at The Watermill in Little Salkeld. Or, just hang out by the hut, explore the woods close by and play on the hidden slack lines.

Each pod includes electric, lighting, a porch for sitting out and a picnic bench for dining. The pods are furnished with 2 single mattresses and pillows.

Ravendale was created from what was the main barn, it is full of character with its distinctive arched facade with characterful oak beams on full display inside. On the ground floor there are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, shower room, and bathroom with a separate shower. All bedrooms are well decorated, tastefully furnished with coordinated soft furnishings. Upstairs is the well equipped kitchen and comfortable dining area together with a spacious lounge with a log burning stove.
We would love to welcome you here to our home in this beautiful setting. We bought Howscales Holiday Cottages in 2016, and we have enjoyed putting our personal touch to each cottage, creating stylish home-from-home self-catering holiday accommodation. We live onsite with our two canine buddies, Murphy and Rosie. There are four cottages set together in this idyllic Cumbrian countryside and one other cottage in the nearby village of Kirkoswald. Offering the personal touch and making sure you have everything you need to make your stay relaxing, enjoyable and memorable is our aim. We are dog friendly, having our own dogs and enjoying holidays with them too. We offer high-standard accommodation so we do have doggy rules, since the cleanliness of our cottages is paramount for all our guests and having spent too many holidays staying in doggy friendly accommodation that was less than clean and well-kept, we know how important it is. The well-equipped cottages are surrounded by gardens and set back from a quiet road between the villages of Kirkoswald and Renwick. In a slightly elevated position they enjoy uninterrupted views across tranquil pastures and woodlands towards the hills of the Lake District and Pennines. The Eden Valley is often described as Cumbria's best kept secret. Bordered in the West by the lakes and mountains of the Lake District National Park, now a World Heritage Site and to the East by the hills and waterfalls of the North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales. This area of Cumbria through which the River Eden meanders is so often overlooked, but offers a perfect rural retreat for a relaxing holiday in delightful scenery.
The Eden Valley has not only wonderful scenery, but also many small, delightful villages and hamlets. Nearby to Howscales Cottages the sandstone villages of Kirkoswald, Glassonby, Gamblesby and Melmerby are delightful to walk to and in Kirkoswald the village pub is very dog friendly so if you are out walking with your four-legged friend you have somewhere to stop for refreshments. Lush green countryside surrounds you and flowing through the Eden Valley is the magnificent River Eden where you can enjoy some great riverside walks. Close to Kirkoswald can be found Laceys Caves, carved out of sandstone and found right on the riverbank. Please note that following the floods in 2015 a section of the footpath to Laceys Caves was washed away and is yet to be repaired. We love where we live and were holidaymakers to the Eden Valley and Lake District too, for many years before settling here at Howscales. We can give you tips and advice on all the best places to go and things to not miss out on.

Situated at the northern end of Ullswater Lake, Pooley Bridge is a small village from where you can catch the Ullswater Steamboats. You can also explore this long and beautiful lake under your own steam – there are a number of places where you can hire canoes. Penrith is the largest town in the Eden district, and was first granted market charter back in 1223. There are still plenty of shops and restaurants to discover during your stay. Westmorland Show, Skelton Show and Lowther Show are the three main events, with everything from prize livestock to vintage tractors on display. You might see some Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling while you’re here. If you fancy a spot of culture, Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake is in a beautiful setting next to Derwent Water and puts on a variety of drama and family shows. In February and March, Keswick also hosts its own Film Festival with an eclectic range of films to see. This being border country, there are lots of castles to visit while you’re here. Lowther Castle is a spectacular ruin that originally boasted a room for every day of the year. Dalemain House and Gardens is a beautiful stately mansion that hosts a marmalade festival every year. And for the border fortification par excellence, Hadrian’s Wall is a must-see. For the longest continuous stretch of wall, head north for Birdoswald Roman Fort. Sampson's is a splendid, 7 bedroom sandstone house set on a Cumbrian rural estate, on the bank of the river Eden. A delicious, tranquil setting down a gravelled track and completely private; the only sound is the splash of trout in the Eden river (rushing through the bottom of the garden) and the wind off the fells. With a huge open plan kitchen with family sized AGA, this much loved family home is perfect for enjoying the very best that Cumbria has to offer.
Sampson's Cave is a delightful, 7 bedroom sandstone house set on the Lazonby Estate in the unspoiled Eden Valley. With a huge open plan kitchen with family sized AGA, this family home is perfect for enjoying the very best of Cumbria and it's local produce. Perfect for family and friends, children can explore freely whilst you relax on the squishy sofas in the living room by the huge open fire. There are much-loved antiques, books galore and pale wooden floors with brightly coloured kilims. Seagrass carpets lead up to the bedrooms which are full of light and have views across the surrounding fells. The gardens are splendid - lawned areas for kicking a ball around and woodlands to explore - an inspiration for artists, fishermen and birdwatchers. The north lakes are only a short drive away but with the glorious Eden Valley on your doorstep, you probably won't venture too far. The large and airy living room, with a quirky central Ottoman, has an open stone fireplace (for our own logs), antique writing table, squishy sofas and well stocked library. TV, DVD, Music System. The dining room has a grand oak table with seating for 10. Cooks will be happy in the very swish open plan kitchen with its Aga-style cooker and plenty of pots and pans, others can idle on huge squashy sofas in front of an open fire – there's a great record collection too. A separate snug study with a big TV is handy for the kids. Bedrooms are all individual, very pretty and inviting with feather duvets and pillows, crisp white cotton, soft Brora throws, faded linen and thick towels. There is a large patio area, outside furniture and a BBQ. The Settle-Carlisle runs close by which will attract the railway enthusiasts!
Sampson's nestles on a private 2000 acre rural estate, offering total seclusion. The River Eden is on the doorstep and we offer our guests private trout and salmon fishing at a nominal cost during the season. The renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line runs pas the house and there is station at the local village of Lazonby. The border city of Carlisle is 30 minutes away, Penrith 10 minutes away and the lakeland town of Keswick 25 minutes away. The northern lakes are much quieter than the southern lakes and Ullswater, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite are all only a short drive away. There is an open air heated swimming pool in our local village of Lazonby. Our local town, Penrith, is a lovely, thriving market town with lots of independent shops alongside the major supermarkets. There are excellent butchers, fishmongers and delis in the town. Take a stroll along the public footpaths of the glorious river Eden and try to spot the Eden Benchmarks - a series of 10 contemporary sculptures. Visit Long Meg. One of the finest stone circles in the north of England, the circle has a diameter of about 350 feet, the second biggest in the country. Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones, about 12 feet high. The stones probably date from about 1500 BC, and it was likely to have been used as a meeting place or for some form of religious ritual. Long Meg is made of local red sandstone, whereas the daughters are boulders of rhyolite, a form of granite. William Wordsworth wrote ‘Next to Stonehenge it is beyond dispute the most notable relic that this or probably any other country contains.’ Have a stroll to Lacey's Caves - a series of 5 chambers in the red sandstone cliff of the River Eden.
