The Roundhouse is located in a place of spectacular beauty, with views of Quamby Bluff and the Great Western Tiers on all sides. The property is surrounded by World Heritage Rainforest which is a result of the protracted Jackeys Marsh Forest Protests. The fresh air, crystal clear water, abundant wildlife and pristine environment are all environmental values prized by the people of Jackeys Marsh. We would now like to share our unique heritage with the rest of the world.
The Roundhouse is a self-contained home set apart from the other buildings on the property. It gives you the privacy and independence to do your own thing. The interior is warm and comfortable with extensive windows to highlight the amazing views of the mountain valley of Jackeys Marsh. The Roundhouse is full of architectural features. From the handmade stonewall basement, through the curved wooden features of the main floor, to the onion top cupola that caps off the building. It is a truly unique property that continues to create special memories for all who visit. "People respond to the shapes that I make. They enjoy the playfulness and freedom of line, and see the resemblance of natural forms in the designs. They appreciate the skill required to make such shapes from straight timber, following Nature's design rules." Kim Clark - Curved Wood Creations ( search this name to see website.)
Jackeys Marsh has a small community of approximately 80 people scattered throughout the valley. Most of the valley is heavily forested with small farms occupying the clearings. Because Jackeys Marsh is off the state energy grid, it attracts those who seek an alternative and more independent lifestyle.

Located in the heart of Tasmania's Central Highlands. Your accommodation is in a modern comfortable residence looking north over Great Lake. Your stay includes a healthy, sustaining breakfast. Enjoy the highlands environment with distant views across Great Lake and changing colours throughout the day.
Our house is located in a bush setting and native animals are often seen nearby. It is a private and peaceful setting.
We are in a peaceful location with good options for lakeside walks to explore the area. Ask Bruce about the fishing. He is an experienced fly angler and has plenty of local knowledge. There are several worthwhile day excursions to fill your day. You could visit an alpine lake with interpretation signs telling you about the unique flora. Visit Tasmania's first hydro power station. See artists sculptures. There is more not too far away

    Julie2019-02-20T00:00:00Z

Peppermint Cottage is a charming 1930s art deco base for your stay on the West Coast. A short drive to Strahan, gateway to the Gordon River cruises. Walk to the centre of town, and access facilities such as the West Coast Wilderness Railway, the Paragon Cinema and the Empire Hotel. The home has views to Mt Owen and many period features. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances eg dishwasher. Modern bathroom + laundry. There is reverse cycle air-conditioning operating continuously.
The Air conditioning runs continuously for your comfort. No remote access is required. NBN 100 with unlimited data. Study/Office space for your business needs is included.
We recommend having a meal and seeing a movie at the art deco Paragon Cinema. Also Queenstown is a great base to take the West Coast Wilderness Railway to Double Barril. There is a good takeaway pizza place in the main street - the street sign says Filis Pizza but it is actually called Delish. Across the road there is Café Serenade that sells deep dish pies including their famous curried scallop pies (closed in the evening). They also have an all day breakfast. For dinner try and book an evening meal and movie at the Paragon Cinema. They just reopened - they run old movies at the same time; for example this week they are running Designing Women with Gregory Peck. You can see what it looks like on their Facebook page. We also like Smelters Restaurant, which is set in a classic piece of 1960's architecture. The Empire Hotel is very historic and serves traditional pub food.

Mole Creek is a Rural Community with a history of beef, sheep & dairy farming, as well as forestry and over 100years of Tourism. 'The Crick' sits on a large limestone karst system with some 400 known caves in the area. The creek it's self 'moles' in and out of the karst system, disappearing underground and popping back up along it's length from its source in a sink whole under Lake McKenzie to where it meets the Mersey River, a few km west of the town. Stunning views of the Great Western Tiers are a feature of the area, as are many great outdoor activities. Watching the light change over the Tiers can be mesmerising late in the afternoon. Sunrises and sunsets can be truly spectacular and if you get your timing right, the Aurora Australis can be viewed over the tiers at night.

A cosy waterfront cabin on The Great Lake, Coldwater Cabin is the perfect place for a secluded wilderness escape. Relax on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the light dance across the lake, or curl up inside with a cup of tea and take in the views through the north-facing windows. If what you crave is the connection to wilderness only Tasmania can offer, then Coldwater Cabin is the place for you. Follow our stays and guests on Instagram: @coldwatercabin
Our cabin is an ideal retreat for individuals and couples alike. Every room looks onto to the lake, giving a feeling of constant connection to the Central Highlands outside. The warmth and ambience of a fire will be a highlight of your stay. The kitchen and living spaces contain wood stoves for heating and ample firewood. And, in the bedroom and bathroom, there are smaller electric heaters to keep you toasty when the temperature drops. Even though the cabin is cosy, the weather is often unpredictable ,so make sure to bring warm clothing for extra comfort. If you enjoy cooking, the kitchen has plenty of crockery and utensils, and the deck is the perfect setting for a meal. We stock a basic pantry that includes coffee beans and grinder, tea, salt, pepper, oil, and some dried herbs and vinaigrettes. You’ll need to buy fresh supplies before heading up the mountain. The closest Woolworths is 40 minutes away in Deloraine, and there is a small shop and pub meals available at The Great Lake hotel, if you get caught out. If you feel like spoiling yourself, we highly recommend trying some of the amazing Tasmanian wineries and fresh food suppliers on the drive up to the cabin. Curtains separate the bedroom from the living room, which gives you the option of getting cosy in the evening or waking to an uninterrupted view of sunrise over the lake. The king-sized bed has fresh linen and there are tonnes of woollen blankets for you to use. The bathroom is simple, with a shower and clawfoot bath with lake views. The cabin runs on tank water, so time is of the essence when it comes to showering. The cabin is incredibly special to us. We’ve spent loads of time designing, renovating and curating all the details so that it suits the natural landscape. It’s our very special family space that we want to share with like-minded travellers.
Miena is one of the coldest towns in Australia. It snows more than 60 days each year, including in during January, so you should prepare for any type of weather. Miena is in the bush and also full of wildlife. Wallabies, possums and deer roam the property, a wombat often pops up from underneath the cabin, and an echnida lives in the wood tanks next door. If you're really lucky, you might even spot a Tassie devil nearby. All this fauna makes it really important that you keep your rubbish in the allocated bins during your visit. If you’re into trout fishing, you’ve definitely come to the right place. There are plenty of world-renowned fly fishing lakes in the area. If you’re a walker, Liffey Falls is a 30-minute drive away and Lake St Clair, an hour. There are also a series of shorter walks close by, and plenty of local lakes to explore.

Once the home to the Tarraleah Cricket team, the Pavilion has been refitted into a comfortable cabin for 2. The Pavilion has a well equipped kitchen making it perfect for self-catering. The main living space and kitchen is open plan with a combustion wood fire to keep you warm and a couch and TV to relax with. The bedroom has a queen size bed and ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. Set away from Tarraleah’s other accommodation, you can sit out on the deck and look out across the old town oval – a few trees and a seldom used heli-pad might get in the way of a cricket game today, but make for a lovely view. Perhaps even spot some of the local wildlife….. Wallaby’s wombats, a possum or two and wake to a kookaburra
Tarraleah Estate is a picturesque piece of living history, located in the Tasmanian Central Highlands. A pleasant surprise off the highway that offers the perfect opportunity to get away from the ‘day to day’ and relax. Once a working town for Hydroelectric pioneers, Tarraleah has been refurbished and renovated to provide you with the perfect hideout or base for your next West Tasmanian adventure. Tarraleah is no longer an active town….. so alas, no grocery store, post office or even public toilets. Perfect for independent travellers, we offer self-contained accommodation with all the comforts of home. Our Cottages are beautifully styled in 1930s décor and our cabins are incredibly comfortable and functional. While Tarraleah Estate boasts up to 20 Residents in the Summer time, our winter population drops to a total of 4 people, with a few day time additions, and some very friendly (and always hungry) ducks, geese and hairy Highland cows. So please come and hang out in our town, or base yourself here while visiting the Wall, Lake St Claire or for your next Fly-fishing adventure. Tours can be booked in advance, but no prior arrangement is needed to visit the 9 hole golf course, explore one of the walks, make it to the waterfall, visit the Hydro Lookout or explore one of our walks. Spacious and well maintained gardens are home for the local wallaby’s wombats and possums, and remember to keep an eye for eagles, superb fairy wrens and even lyre birds.

  • Ottimo posto dove stare - paese stupendo. Ci è piaciuto moltissimo

    Leisa2019-09-20T00:00:00Z

Consigliamo vivamente The Humpy.

    Catherine2019-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Abbiamo trascorso 3 notti fantastiche all'Humpy.

Oatlands has the largest collection of sandstone buildings in a village setting in Australia. The town's authentic colonial character is reflected in 87 original sandstone buildings along the town's main street. Oatlands is one of Tasmania's oldest settlements and was named by Governor Macquarie after an English town in the county of Surrey in 1821. It was developed as a military base for the control and management of convicts because of its central location between Hobart and Launceston. Convicts were assigned to nearby farms and properties, and also worked on public buildings, roads and bridges. Some of the more significant buildings include the Oatlands Gaol (1835) which offer evening ghost walks for the brave, Commissariat's Store and Watch House (1830s) and Officers' Quarters (1830s). The Callington Mill (1837) is the only working example of a Lincolnshire windmill in Australia. Oatlands Post Office opened on 1 June 1832. Much of the Black War (early settlers against local aborigines) took place in the surrounding districts, and Oatlands was also the home of the ex-convict Solomon Blay, Tasmania's most feared hangman. There are a number of unique landmarks in Oatlands, including the Callington Mill and St Pauls' Church. The mill was built in 1837 and was restored to working order during June/July 2010, and the Catholic Church was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin, the father of Gothic Revival architecture. For some years after 1848, Oatlands was the place of exile of the Irish nationalist leader Kevin Izod O'Doherty, where his stone cottage still stands. A railway connected Oatlands with Parattah Junction, on the main Hobart to Launceston line. The railway opened on 13 May 1885 and it closed on 10 June 1949. Oatlands was generally a relatively prosperous town in the 20th century but by the 1990s the Tasmanian economy slump, the highway bypass and a Tasmanian Midlands rural drought had a very negative effect on the town. Much of Tasmania's economic renewal, like the highway, has bypassed Oatlands, along with Ross, Tunbridge, Kempton and Pontville, which today is a lot quieter than it used to be. The residents are attempting to grow the town once more by making it a peaceful local centre with a tourist friendly image. The Oatlands Court House is an historic Georgian building in Oatlands. Built by convict labour in 1829, the Oatlands Court House is the oldest supreme court house in rural Australia and the oldest building in Oatlands. This fine example of a Georgian public building was originally constructed as a combined Chapel and Police Office. It was purchased by the National Trust in 1977. Oatlands has the largest collection of sandstone buildings in a village setting in Australia. The town’s authentic colonial character is reflected in 87 original sandstone buildings along the town’s main street. Some of the more significant buildings include the Oatlands gaol (1835), Commissariat’s store and watch house (1830s) and officers’ quarters (1830s).

    Stacey2018-06-04T00:00:00Z

Davvero fantastico. Mi piace troppo

The Ariel Cottage is a beautiful solid sandstone construction built in the heritage style from locally quarried stone. The internal fit out uses timber from our property and other native Tasmanian timber to give a luxury colonial feel with a building that does not compromise on character, aesthetic, or modern amenity. Guests have total, private control of the entire living space including covered deck, your own garden space, and exclusive use of the wooden cedar hot tub set into the deck.
Guests have their own private space away from the main farmhouse. Each cottage has its own private garden area and each cottage is exclusive to a single group - no shared living, bathroom or anything else. Guests also have access to the wider farm with sheep, goats, alpacas, chickens, ducks, and other assorted fowl. Wandering through the gardens or enjoying a glass of wine taking in the idyllic views from the wooden bench overlooking the valley, guests have the freedom to enjoy the natural landscape at their own pace.
The Mole Creek area is a great central hub for access to the entire region. Easy access to Cradle Mountain, the Walls of Jerusalem, and a plethora of short and medium walks including the Alum Cliffs national park walk a mere 800m from our front gate with stunning views over a deep gorge and easy sighting of peregrine falcons, tawny frog-mouths and other sights such as wedge-tail eagles for the bird lovers. The Mole Creek Caves are stunning with several hundred different caves through the wider area. There are 2 main guided caves that are available every day of the year and a range of self guided caves are available for the more adventurous traveler. Other options such as local wineries, black truffle tours, salmon, hazelnut, raspberry and other farms and lots of small and quirky cafes and local breweries round out the offerings to satisfy those seeking a less physical experience or simply needing a break from all the hiking. There is something for everyone out here.

A humble heritage listed cottage built with convict bricks in the mid 1800s. Two fireplaces keep the cottage warm during the cold winters experienced on the Central Highlands. The house has been restored with all modern amenities and carefully and thoughtfully curated with a diverse collection of vintage and antique pieces which speak to the varied history of the cottage. Just 90 minutes from Launceston and 1 hour from Hobart, Bothwell is the perfect location from which to explore.
Cross the sandstone verandah and enter through the original front door. Step into the cosy living room with combustion stove, pour a whisky and settle into the comfy leather sofa. The master bedroom is to the left with an open fire and antique bed. To the rear is the kitchen and dining room. The bathroom has a restored clawfoot bath for you to luxuriate in. There is plenty of electric heating for the colder months. Through the rear door is a huge paved area and yard with outdoor seating to enjoy the warmer days. The combustion stove and open fireplace in the bedroom can be used if you're knowledgeable about their use. Wood for the fireplaces is supplied and can be found in the wood shed out the back. Wifi is available but there is no television. Please note that there is no dishwasher or microwave. There are no laundry facilities available. Bothwell has limited fresh food or grocery stores. I advise purchasing fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries before you arrive. I can recommend Hill Street Grocers in Hobart.
Bothwell is in Tasmania's beautiful central highlands. It was settled by farmers in the 1820s and still has a distinctive colonial character and old-world atmosphere today. Bothwell is a charming quintessential Aussie town, full of character. Although not pretty it is authentic, a true representation of of the characters who reside here. More than 50 buildings in Bothwell are heritage-listed for their architectural and historical value, so take a stroll along the wide streets and enjoy the details of built treasures that range from simple stone cottages to grand, elegant churches. For those interested in golf, Bothwell is home to one of the oldest golf courses in Australia at Ratho. Laid in the mid-1830s, the course has square putting greens and fairways maintained by grazing sheep. You can even play a round with traditional hickory clubs. Locals and visitors also come to the nearby lakes, rivers and reserves to fly fish for the elusive brown trout and hunt for game. There are world famous whisky distilleries for those who like a nibble and a tipple, too. Walk through the lovey village green and onto Sealys for a delicious morning tea or lunch. I recommend purchasing your fresh food and groceries before arriving as there is limited fresh supplies in Bothwell.

Part of Tarraleah Estate, the Old Doctor's offers a comfortable easy stop over spot. From November-April (inclusive) you can visit the Highlander Arms Tavern for a hearty meal, or stop in at Teez Cafe for breakfast or lunch. Should you prefer the convenience of self-catering, then the Old Doctors is equipped with all the basics... Hotplates, microwave, toaster, kettle, mini-fridge, cutlery, crockery, basic cookware and linen..... definitely a heater, and Housekeeping will even pay you a visit to restock your amenities. Visit the friendly ducks or highland cows, head off on a short walk and explore our Estate.

    Jessica2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Ottimo posto dove stare. Cheryll era molto accogliente.

    Robert2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
