Altre cose da tenere a mente
The house is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing holiday but the area also offers a number of opportunities either as places to visit and activities to do.
We offer our willingness to accompany guests on sightseeing to be agreed before or after their arrival, advising the best places to see in our fantastic region: Lecce, Gallipoli, Ostuni, Valle d'Itria, Alberobello, Otranto, etc.
The activities to do while staying, are: cooking classes, "pizzica" classes (tipical dance of Salento), visits to companies producing dairy products and tasting, tours of wineries producing wine Primitivo and when is the right time (Aug. / September), they can take part in the harvest.

Manduria, Puglia, Italia

The villa is located on the countryside a few minutes outside of Manduria. It is surrounded by vineyards where farmers grow and harvest the local grape of Primitivo. From the rooftop you have a beautiful view over endless vineyards, olivetrees and small dry stonewalls in different shapes with wild prickly pears alongside. There are some smaller roads and tracks along the vineyards and olive trees that are perfect for a morning walk or run. One of the closest neighbours is an old Masseria witch is like an old farm/fort typical for Salento and are found all over the countryside. The Masserias are often very beautiful and built like small fortresses as protection from pirates back in the days. The Masserias nowadays are often restored in to restaurants or private homes. There are many beautiful smaller roads to take from the villa that will lead you down to the ocean. Within 10 -15 minutes you will find some of the best beaches in Europe with crystal clear water and rich wildlife including flamingos.

If you drive in the other direction you will find yourself in Manduria in a few minutes where you can buy fresh local fruits and vegetables and bread for your breakfast or take a morning coffee in one of the many small coffee bars where the local people pop in for a quick espresso and some small talk.

In the central parts of Manduria you will find the old town with it´s old streets, buildings and the former Jewish ghetto. In the small narrow streets there´s the remains of a small synagogue. The streets and the buildings are very beautiful and you easily spend an hour or two just looking at the high windows, impressing balcony´s and the classic Italian architecture. After some exploring in the small alleys there´s nothing better then to relax at one of the many bars around the big square, piazza Garibaldi.

The old town of Manduria is a well kept secret. Not many tourists find there way here, but it is just as interesting and filled with history and soul as other better known parts of Italy. There are also many beautiful churches and cathedrals in the center. Manduria has a very old and interesting history. The town was founded by the Messapians before the Roman empire. Manduria means “The land in the middle” and is believed to have gotten that name from it´s location between the Adriatic and Ionian seas. There are some archeologic sites in the outskirts of town where you can look at the ruins of the three old defensive walls. The walls was built as protection from the Greeks in Taranto and later on the Romans.

So book your trip and start explore and learn more about Manduria and Salento!

Francesco: I was born in Rome and my father was from Apulia. 12 years ago I decided to leave the "big city" and move back where my roots are, choosing a different life style in close contact with nature and my animals. No regret, I can guarantee it. Maria: I was born in Manduria but I lived in Bari for 23 years owing to my job. In 2009 I moved back to Manduria and we decided to live together in this..."paradise"! We have 3 dogs and 3 cats that are our children and we enjoy this lifestyle taking care of our guests for some months during the year. Our house is always opened to our friends and people that want to join us in the peaceful country. We love nice food and wine, music and fitness in the open air. During these years we hosted a lot of people coming from different part of the world and we established close relationship that last to this day. Our motto is: Our house is your house!
